What is the Belgian Jupiler Pro League?

The Belgian Jupiler Pro League is the country's top-flight league, organized by the RBFA Royal Belgian Football Association, tasked with organizing Belgian professional and amateur football.

Belgium was an early adopter of football due to its closeness to England, with the first formal round-robin style competition starting in 1895. The inaugural 1895–96 season featured seven teams: Antwerp FC, Brugeois FC, Liegeois FC, Bruxelles RC, Leopold Club de Bruxelles, Bruxelles SC, and Union d'Ixelles.

The Belgian Football system is currently structured with the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, known as First Division A, as the top tier competition, with 16 teams; the Challenger Pro League, or First Division B, as the second tier, with 16 teams; the Belgian National Division 1 as the third tier, with 18 teams; and the Belgian Division 2 as the fourth tier with 54 clubs divided into three regional groups. Additionally, the TFF Belgian Football Federation administers other major national competitions, like the Belgian Cup, a knockout tournament that includes teams from the top three levels of the Belgian Football Pyramid, and the Belgian Super Cup, played since 1979 between the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and Belgian Cup champions.

Regarding international events, the Belgian Jupiler Pro League is a member of UEFA, and their teams qualify for continental competitions like the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Conference League.

The Belgian Jupiler Pro League ranked 8th in Europe according to the UEFA League 2023 coefficient, keeping a very steady track record in terms of financials, attendance, and television viewership. Internationally, the league has had limited attention after the Belgium team's performance in European competitions diminished from the times in the 1980s and 1990s, when clubs like RSC Anderlecht and Royal Antwerp FC were often seen at the top of the European Cups.

Current teams (as of the 2023 season):

  • Anderlecht - RSC Anderlecht, Brussels
  • Antwerp - Royal Antwerp FC, Antwerp
  • Cercle - Cercle Brugge Koninklijke Sportvereniging, Bruges
  • Charleroi - Royal Charleroi SC, Charleroi
  • Brugge - Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging, Bruges
  • Eupen - K.A.S. Eupen, Eupen
  • Genk - Koninklijke Racing Club, Genk
  • Gent - Koninklijke Atletiek Associatie, Ghent
  • Kortrijk - Koninklijke Voetbalclub, Kortrijk
  • Mechelen - Yellow Red Koninklijke Voetbalclub, Mechelen
  • OHL - Oud-Heverlee, Leuven
  • RWD - Racing White Daring, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean
  • Sint-Truiden - Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging, Sint-Truiden
  • Standard - Royal Standard de Liège, Liege
  • Union SG - Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Brussels
  • Westerlo - Koninklijke Voetbal Club, Westerlo

The season is played between August and May in two stages:

Regular season: Each club plays against each other twice, at home and away, in a double round-robin format, for 30 matchdays, with the usual three points per win, one point per draw, and no points per loss. Teams are ranked by points, and in case of a tie, other criteria are considered, starting with goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head score, goals scored in the matchup, away goals in the matchup, and total away goals in the season. A tiebreaker match played at a neutral venue would decide the final placement in case of a persisting tie that would define the Championship, qualification to other competitions, and relegation.

Championship Playoff: The top six clubs in the regular season table qualify for a round-robin playoff, where all clubs play against each other twice, with the same format and points as the regular season. The top-placed team in the playoff is crowned the champion.

The top two Belgian Jupiler Pro League teams qualify for the following UEFA Champions League. Since the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europe League champions earn a direct berth, the league could have extra qualifying spots if these come from the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. The third team, alongside the Belgian Cup champion, qualifies for the UEFA Europa League, the continental second-tier club competition. The fourth place earns a UEFA Europa Conference League berth, the third-tier European tournament.

The Belgian Jupiler Pro League includes a relegation and promotion system in which, after every season, two or three teams are relegated to the Challenger Pro League, with two or three teams from the second tier being promoted to take their place. The relegation and promotion are decided in parallel playoffs. The relegation playoff features the bottom four teams in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, with the bottom two being relegated, while the third from the bottom plays a final knockout series with the third-placed team in the promotion playoff that features the top four teams in the Challenger Pro League, where the two top get a direct promotion, while the third battles the third to last from the first tier.

The promotions and relegations system gives an exciting edge to the competition in the fight to avoid relegation. Only three teams have avoided relegation from the Belgian Jupiler Pro League: Besiktas, Standard Liege, and Club Brugge.

How to Bet on the Belgian Jupiler Pro League

BetPhoenix.ag not only offers you the best Belgian Jupiler Pro League Odds, but we also provide you with many helpful tools, like this Belgian Jupiler Pro League odds guide, to introduce you to the numerous moneymaking opportunities available when betting on the Belgian Jupiler Pro League betting lines, helping you improve your chances of winning.

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Point Spreads

The Belgian Jupiler Pro League Point Spreads bets, similarly to other major sports like football, baseball, and basketball, are based on a handicapped margin of victory established on a projected game result. If a Belgian Jupiler Pro League betting lines show a point spread of 1.5 for an upcoming game, the favorite team (-1.5) must win by at least two goals for your bet to be a winner, while betting on the underdog (+1.5) can lose by one goal, tie the game or win outright for your bet to be a win. The .5 fraction is used to avoid a push in the wagers.

This is an example of a Belgian Jupiler Pro League Point Spread, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Points Spread Odds

Club Brugge -1.5

Standard Liege +1.5

In this case, the -1.5 points spread indicates that Club Brugge is the favorite to win by a margin of two goals against Standard Liege. Conversely, Standard Liege is the underdog and can lose by a margin of less than two goals. These are the likely results of this bet:

· Club Brugge wins by two or more goals: Club Brugge bettors win.

· Club Brugge wins by one goal: Standard Liege bettors win.

· The game is a draw/tie: Standard Liege bettors win.

· Standard Liege wins the game: Standard Liege bettors win.

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Moneylines

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Moneyline is always the most straightforward betting option. Your pick reflects who you expect to be the outright winner of the game. A negative odds value indicates the favorite, while a positive value indicates an underdog. Belgian Jupiler Pro League Moneyline uses a $100 base American odds system, in which larger numbers indicate a stronger favorite or weaker underdog.

In the two-way Belgian Jupiler Pro League Moneyline, the Belgian Jupiler Pro League betting lines are focused on either one of the two sides winning, removing the impact of a tie or draw, in which case the bet would be a push. There is also a three-way Belgian Jupiler Pro League Moneyline, in which the Belgian Jupiler Pro League betting lines offer odds values for the home team winning, the visitor team winning, or the match ending in a draw or tie.

This is an example of a Two-Way Belgian Jupiler Pro League Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Club Brugge -450

Standard Liege +300

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Club Brugge -140, as favorites, you would need to risk $140, while betting $100 on Standard Liege +120 as an underdog, you would receive $120 if Standard Liege wins the game. If the match ends in a tie, the wager would be a push, which means the bet is voided and refunded.

This is an example of a Three-Way Belgian Jupiler Pro League Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Club Brugge -155

Draw +275

Standard Liege +425

If you bet to win $100 on Club Brugge -155 as the favorite, you would need to risk $155. If you bet $100 on the draw +275, you would receive $275 if the game ends in a tie. And betting $100 on Standard Liege +425 as an underdog, you would receive $425 if Standard Liege wins.

At BetPhoenix, our Belgian Jupiler Pro League odds will give you the best available Moneyline prices and the tightest point spread odds offered by any sportsbook.

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Over/Under Totals

The Belgian Jupiler Pro League Totals bet is based on a projected final score that includes both teams, independently on which side wins. Belgian Jupiler Pro League Totals are represented in an Over/Under set, where you can pick if you expect this result to be over or under this estimated line.

This is an example of a Belgian Jupiler Pro League Over/Under Totals as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Totals – Club Brugge vs. Standard Liege

  • Total: 2.5
  • Over odds: +120
  • Under odds: -150

In this case, the Belgian Jupiler Pro League Over/Under of 2.5 means that if the match ends with a combined score of three or more goals, the Over wins; if the total score is two or less, the Under wins. If you bet to win $100 on the Over +120, and the match ends with 3 goals or more, you would receive $120. Betting $100 on the Under -150, you would need to risk $150 to win if the game ends with 2 goals or less.

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Parlays

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Parlay is a wager type in which two or more Belgian Jupiler Pro League betting lines are combined to form a single wager with a considerably higher payout. However, all selected Belgian Jupiler Pro League betting lines must win for the parlay wager to win. You can combine point spreads, moneylines, over/under totals, and other wagers. You can also combine favorites and underdogs. The more bets you add to your Belgian Jupiler Pro League parlay, the odds multiply accordingly in your favor.

Using the example, a two-line Belgian Jupiler Pro League Parlay could be as follows:

Club Brugge -155

Club Brugge vs. Standard Liege Total: Under 2.5 -150

By combining the Club Brugge Moneyline -155 and Total Under 2.5 -150 for the Club Brugge vs. Standard Liege game on a 2-team parlay risking $100, the combined odds would be +174 with a payout for this parlay of $274.21, about 2.5 times your bet, instead of risking $100 to bet on each separately.

Belgian Jupiler Pro League Prop Bets

Belgian Jupiler Pro League prop bets are one of the most exciting ways to bet on the outcome of the games. The most popular Belgian Jupiler Pro League Prop Bets include many possibilities. Team prop bets include lines to bet on which team will score first, how many shots on goal will be made, how many corner kicks will occur, how many cards will be sanctioned, and a long etcetera.
