The Italy Serie B, known as Serie B for short, or officially Serie A BKT, thanks to the sponsorship agreement with BKT Balkrishna Industries Limited, a multinational tire company, is the second division of the Italian Football League system. The league was founded with the big reform conceived by the FIGC Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio, the Italian Football Federation, the nation's FIFA-affiliated governing body for football in the late 1920s. The Italian Football System as we know it today was created after the consolidation of the Italy Serie A was completed in 1929 with the current round-robin format. In this restructuring that unified the regional leagues into one competition, the Italian Football System Pyramid was completed with the creation of the Italy Serie B and with the later incorporation of the regional semi-pro groups as the Italy Serie C in 1935.

The latest restructuring came in 2010, with the creation of the LNPA Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie B, or National Professionals League Serie B, as the new independent governing body separated from the FIGC Italian Football Federation in which the 20 clubs in the Italy Serie B have equal rights and revenue sharing from sponsorships and television rights, separated from the Italy Serie A, managed through the parallel LNPA Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A. In counterpart, the LNPA Serie A took over most of the national competitions held with the participation of the top-flight teams, like the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana.

Regarding international events, as members of UEFA, Italy Serie B teams have the possibility to qualify for the UEFA Conference League through the Coppa Italia.

What is the Italy Serie B?

The Italy Serie B is the country's top-flight league, operated by the LNPA Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie B in conjunction with the FIGC Italian Football Federation and under the umbrella of the Italian Football System, which includes the Italy Serie A as the top-tier league with 20 teams, the Italy Serie B as the second tier competition with 20 teams, and the Serie C, a professional third tier with 60 teams divided into three regional groups.

The Italy Serie B league is considered one of the best second-tier football leagues in the world, similar in revenues and audience to the Spain Segunda Division, Germany Bundesliga 2, and France Ligue 2, only behind the English EFL Championship that sits above the rest.

Current teams:

  • Ascoli - Ascoli Piceno
  • Bari - Bari
  • Brescia - Brescia
  • Catanzaro - Catanzaro
  • Cittadella - Cittadella
  • Como - Como
  • Cosenza - Cosenza
  • Cremonese - Cremona
  • Feralpisalo - Salo and Lonato del Garda
  • Lecco - Lecco
  • Modena - Modena
  • Palermo - Palermo
  • Parma - Parma
  • Pisa - Pisa
  • Reggiana - Reggio Emilia
  • Sampdoria - Genoa
  • Spezia - La Spezia
  • Südtirol - Bolzano
  • Ternana - Terni
  • Venezia - Venice

The season is played between August and May, where each club plays against each other twice, at home and away, in a double round-robin format, for a total of 38 matches each, with the usual three points per win, one point per draw, and no points per loss. All teams are ranked by points, and in case of a tie in points, by the goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head score, goals scored in the matchup, away goals in the matchup, and total away goals in the season. A tiebreaker match played at a neutral venue would decide the final placement in case of a persisting tie that would define the Championship or the qualification to other competitions.

The Italy Serie B includes a relegation and promotion system after every season. Three teams in this second-tier level are promoted to Italy Serie A. The first two qualified teams are promoted directly, while teams ranked third to eighth qualify for the Italia Serie B promotion playoffs, in which a first round features the fifth versus eighth and sixth versus seventh in a double-legged series, followed by a semifinal that features the winners of these series against the third and fourth seed, of which the winners complete a third final round also home and away to determine the last promotion spot. Conversely, three Italy Serie A teams are demoted to replace the promoted teams in the following season. In terms of relegation, the last four teams in the table are relegated to the Italy Serie C, with the places left by them being filled by four qualifying Serie C teams. The relegation system raises the stakes and gives the competition unparalleled competitiveness, with bottom teams fighting until the end to maintain the category. Only one team, Inter Milan, has never been relegated to a lower division since its establishment in 1909.

How to Bet on the Italy Serie B

BetPhoenix.ag not only offers you the best Italy Serie B Odds, but we also provide you with many helpful tools, like this Italy Serie B odds guide, to introduce you to the numerous moneymaking opportunities available when betting on the Italy Serie B betting lines, helping you improve your chances of winning.

Italy Serie B Point Spreads

The Italy Serie B Point Spreads bets, similarly to other major sports like football, baseball, and basketball, are based on a handicapped margin of victory established on a projected game result. If an Italy Serie B betting lines show a point spread of 1.5 for an upcoming game, the favorite team (-1.5) must win by at least two goals for your bet to be a winner, while betting on the underdog (+1.5) can lose by one goal, tie the game or win outright for your bet to be a win. The .5 fraction is used to avoid a push in the wagers.

This is an example of an Italy Serie B Point Spread, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Points Spread Odds

Venezia -1.5

Palermo +1.5

In this case, the -1.5 points spread indicates that Venezia is the favorite to win by a margin of two goals against Juventus. Conversely, Palermo is the underdog and can lose by a margin of less than two goals. These are the likely results of this bet:

· Venezia wins by two or more goals: Venezia bettors win.

· Venezia wins by one goal: Palermo bettors win.

· The game is a draw/tie: Palermo bettors win.

· Palermo wins the game: Palermo bettors win.

Italy Serie B Moneylines

Italy's Serie A Moneyline is always the most straightforward betting option. Your pick reflects who you expect to be the outright winner of the game. A negative odds value indicates the favorite, while a positive value indicates an underdog. Italy Serie B Moneyline uses a $100 base American odds system, in which larger numbers indicate a stronger favorite or weaker underdog.

The two-way Italy Serie B Moneyline, in which the Italy Serie B betting lines are focused on either one of the two sides winning, removing the impact of a tie or draw, in which case the bet would be a push. There is also a three-way Italy Serie B Moneyline, in which the Italy Serie B betting lines offer odds values for the home team winning, the visitor team winning, or the match ending in a draw or tie.

This is an example of a Two-Way Italy Serie B Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Venezia -240

Palermo +150

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Venezia -240 as favorites, you would need to risk $240, while betting $100 on Palermo +150 as an underdog, you would receive $150 if Palermo wins the game. If the match ends in a tie, the wager would be a push, which means the bet is voided and refunded.

This is an example of a Three-Way Italy Serie B Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Venezia -170

Draw +275

Palermo +190

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Venezia -170 as a favorites, you would need to risk $170. Betting $100 on the draw +275, you would receive $275 if the game ends in a tie. And betting $100 on Palermo +190 as an underdog, you would receive $190 if Palermo wins the game.

At BetPhoenix, our Italy Serie B odds will give you the best available Moneyline prices and the tightest point spread odds offered by any sportsbook.

Italy Serie B Over/Under Totals

The Italy Serie B Totals bet is based on a projected final score that includes both teams, independently on which side wins. Italy Serie B Totals are represented in an Over/Under set, where you can pick if you expect this result to be over or under this estimated line.

This is an example of an Italy Serie B Over/Under Totals as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Italy Serie B Totals – Venezia vs. Palermo

Total: 2.5

Over odds: +190

Under odds: -240

In this case, the Italy Serie B Over/Under of 2.5 means that if the match ends with a combined score of three or more goals, the Over wins; if the total score is two or less, the Under wins. If you bet to win $100 on the Under -240, you would need to risk $240 and win if the game ends with 2 goals or less. Betting $100 on the Over +190, you would receive $190 if the game ends with 3 goals or more.

Italy Serie B Parlays

Italy Serie B Parlay is a wager type in which two or more Italy Serie B betting lines are combined to form a single wager with a considerably higher payout. However, all selected Italy Serie B betting lines must win for the parlay wager to win. You can combine point spreads, moneylines, over/under totals, and other wagers. You can also combine favorites and underdogs. The more bets you add to your Italy Serie B parlay, the odds multiply accordingly in your favor.

Using the example, a two-line Italy Serie B Parlay could be as follows:

Venezia -170

Venezia vs. Palermo Total: Over 2.5 +190

By combining the Venezia Moneyline -170 and Total Over 2.5 +190 for the Venezia vs. Palermo game on a 2-team parlay risking $100, the combined odds would be +361 with a payout for this parlay of $460.58, about 4 times your bet, instead of risking $100 to bet on each separately.
