The Spain Segunda Division, known as Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Segunda Division, simply Segunda for short, and officially as the "LALIGA HYPERMOTION" thanks to the sponsorship agreement with EA Sports, is the second tier division of the Spanish Football League system. The league was founded in 1929 along the Spain La Liga Primera Division under the RFEF Real Federacion Española de Futbol, the nation's FIFA-affiliated governing body for football. It was spun off in 1984 with the creation of the LFP Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional, an independent organization separated from the RFEF Spanish Football Federation, with 42 clubs that comprise the two top levels of Spanish Club Football.

The current structure of the LFP Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional organization puts it in charge of the National League Championship competitions, which includes the top two tiers of Spanish Football, the Spain Primera Division, branded as LALIGA EA SPORTS as the first tier with 20 clubs, and the Spain Segunda Division, branded as LALIGA HYPERMOTION as the second tier with 22 clubs. The RFEF Federation is responsible for the underlying levels of the Spanish Football System, with the Primera Federacion League as the third tier and the Segunda Federacion as the fourth regional tier.

Spain Segunda Division teams also participate in other national events, like the Copa del Rey, a knock-out tournament that includes teams from the top five levels of the Spanish Football Pyramid. Regarding international events, Spain Segunda Division teams have the possibility to qualify for the UEFA Conference League through the Copa del Rey.

What is the Spain Segunda Division?

The Spain Segunda Division is the country's second-tier league, operated independently by the LFP Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional but in conjunction and under the umbrella of the RFEF Royal Spanish Football Federation, in which this independent organizational body represents the 42 teams that form the top two tiers of the Spanish Football System, with its decisions made through an equal vote for the 42 clubs.

The Spain Segunda Division counts with 22 clubs participating each season. The Spain Segunda Division is the second strongest second-tier league in the world in financial terms and the second most-watched in the world, behind the English EFL Championship.

Current teams:

  • Albacete - Albacete
  • Alcorcon - Alcorcon
  • Amorebieta - Amorebieta-Etxano
  • Andorra - Andorra
  • Burgos - Burgos
  • Cartagena - Cartagena
  • Eibar - Eibar
  • Elche - Elche
  • Eldense - Elda
  • Espanyol - Barcelona
  • Huesca - Huesca
  • Leganes - Leganes
  • Levante - Valencia
  • Mirandes - Miranda de Ebro
  • Oviedo - Oviedo
  • Racing Ferrol - Ferrol
  • Racing Santander - Santander
  • Sporting Gijon - Gijon
  • Tenerife - Santa Cruz de Tenerife
  • Valladolid - Valladolid
  • Villarreal B - Villarreal
  • Zaragoza – Zaragoza

The season is played between the months of August and May, with a double round-robin format in which each club plays against each other twice, at home and away, for 42 matches, with the usual three points per win, one point per draw, and no points per loss. All teams are ranked by points, and in case of a tie in points, by goal difference, number of goals scored, head-to-head score between tied teams, and goals scored away in the matchup. In case of a persisting tie that would define the championship, promotion or relegation spots, a playoff match played at a neutral venue would decide the tie-break.

The Spain Segunda Division includes a relegation and promotion instrument in which, after every season, with three teams in this second tier being promoted to the Spain La Liga, the top two teams plus the winner of a playoff played between teams placed 3rd to 6th. Reserve Teams, those affiliated with Spain La Liga Primera Division teams, are not entitled to promotion. Conversely, the four lower teams are relegated to the Spain Primera Federacion, with the four eligible teams from the third-tier tournament taking their place. This system gives the leagues an excellent level of competitiveness, not only in competing for the championship but also in avoiding relegation.

Of all the teams to have ever competed in this category, only six have never been relegated to a lower division: Atletico de Madrid, Real Club Deportivo Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Sevilla Club de Futbol, Sporting de Gijon, and Valencia Club de Futbol.

Real Murcia is the team that has participated for the most seasons in the Spain Segunda Division, with 53 winning the championship on eight occasions. Sporting de Gijon follows with 48, Tenerife and Sabadell with 44, Hercules de Alicante with 43, and Deportivo de La Coruña, Club Deportivo Castellon, and Cadiz with 41 seasons.

How to Bet on the Spain Segunda Division

BetPhoenix.ag not only offers you the best Spain Segunda Division Odds, but we also provide you with many helpful tools, like this Spain Segunda Division odds guide, to introduce you to the numerous moneymaking opportunities available when betting on the Spain Segunda Division betting lines, helping you improve your chances of winning.

Spain Segunda Division Point Spread

The Spain Segunda Division Point Spreads bets, similarly to other major sports like football, basketball, and baseball, are based on a handicapped margin of victory established on a projected game result. If a Spain Segunda Division betting lines show a point spread of 1.5 for an upcoming game, the favorite team (-1.5) must win by at least two goals for your bet to be a winner, while betting on the underdog (+1.5) can lose by one goal, tie the game or win outright for your bet to be a win. The .5 fraction is used to avoid a push in the wagers.

This is an example of a Spain Segunda Division Point Spread, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Points Spread Odds

Espanyol -1.5

Zaragoza +1.5

In this case, the -1.5 points spread indicates that Espanyol is the favorite to win by a margin of two goals against Arsenal. Conversely, Zaragoza is the underdog and can lose by a margin of less than two goals. These are the likely results of this bet:

· Espanyol wins by two or more goals: Espanyol bettors win.

· Espanyol wins by one goal: Zaragoza bettors win.

· The game is a draw/tie: Zaragoza bettors win.

· Zaragoza wins the game: Zaragoza bettors win.

Spain Segunda Division Moneyline

Spain Segunda Division Moneyline is always the most straightforward betting option. Your pick reflects who you expect to be the outright winner of the game. A negative odds value indicates the favorite, while a positive value indicates an underdog. Spain Segunda Division Moneyline uses a $100 base American odds system, in which larger numbers indicate a stronger favorite or weaker underdog.

The two-way Spain Segunda Division Moneyline, in which the Spain Segunda Division betting lines are focused on either one of the two sides winning, removing the impact of a tie or draw, in which case the bet would be a push. There is also a three-way Spain Segunda Division Moneyline, in which the Spain Segunda Division betting lines offer odds values for the home team winning, the visitor team winning, or the match ending in a draw or tie.

This is an example of a Two-Way Spain Segunda Division Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Espanyol -500

Zaragoza +350

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Espanyol -500, as favorites, you would need to risk $500, while betting $100 on Zaragoza +350 as an underdog, you would receive $350 if Zaragoza wins the game. If the match ends in a tie, the wager would be a push, which means the bet is voided and refunded.

This is an example of a Three-Way Spain Segunda Division Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Espanyol -170

Draw +270

Zaragoza +470

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Espanyol -170 as favorites, you would need to risk $170. Betting $100 on the draw +270, you would receive $270 if the game ends in a tie. And betting $100 on Zaragoza +470 as an underdog, you would receive $470 if Zaragoza wins the game.

At BetPhoenix, our Spain Segunda Division odds will give you the best available Moneyline prices and the tightest point spread odds offered by any sportsbook.

Spain Segunda Division Over/Under Totals

The Spain Segunda Division Totals bet is based on a projected final score that includes both teams, independently on which side wins. Spain Segunda Division Totals are represented in an Over/Under set, where you can pick if you expect this result to be over or under this estimated line.

This is an example of a Spain Segunda Division Over/Under Totals as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Spain Segunda Division Totals – Espanyol vs. Arsenal

Total: 2.5

Over odds: -120

Under odds: +110

In this case, the Spain Segunda Division Over/Under of 2.5 means that if the match ends with a combined score of three or more goals, the Over wins; if the total score is two or less, the Under wins. If you bet to win $100 on the Over -120, you would need to risk $120 and win if the game ends with 3 goals or more. Betting $100 on the Under +110, you would receive $110 if the game ends with 2 goals or less.

Spain Segunda Division Parlays

Spain Segunda Division Parlay is a wager type in which two or more Spain Segunda Division betting lines are combined to form a single wager with a considerably higher payout. However, all selected Spain Segunda Division betting lines must win for the parlay wager to win. You can combine point spreads, moneylines, over/under totals, and other wagers. You can also combine favorites and underdogs. The more bets you add to your Spain Segunda Division parlay, the odds multiply accordingly in your favor.

Using the example, a two-line Spain Segunda Division Parlay could be as follows:

Espanyol -170

Espanyol vs. Zaragoza Total: Over 2.5 -120

By combining the Espanyol Moneyline -170 and Total Over 2.5 -120 for the Espanyol vs. Zaragoza game on a 2-team parlay risking $100, the combined odds would be +191 with a payout for this parlay of $291.16, about 3 times your bet, instead of risking $100 to bet on each separately.
