MLB Double Header Preview: Red Sox vs Giants & Rockies vs Dodgers

The baseball season is in full swing and heating up by the minute. With so many great games played each day, it’s hard to choose which to bet on. But, we’ve got a couple of games we have our eye on and the full game preview below. First up…

Boston Red Sox vs San Francisco Giants

  • Place: AT&T Park

Betting Odds:

  • San Francisco -118
  • Boston +108

Bet on Boston

Tonight’s game is all about the pitching matchup between David Price and Madison Bumgarner. Price will have to take a got at bat and hasn’t fared all too well at it, going just 2-for-39 (.051) in his career and 0-for-his-last 29. He’s also never gotten a hit against a lefty and is 0-for-8 with six strikeouts.

Regardless, Price has said that he’s looking forward to facing Bumgarner, enjoying the moment of participating on both pitching and at bat.

Bumgarner might be a challenge for Price. The right-handed batter is the leader in home runs by a pitcher with a total of 13. Just recently, Bumgarner hit a two-run homer against Atlanta on Thursday. Bumgarner also shares the major league lead for home runs by a pitcher with the Mets’ Noah Syndegaard.

Price however is ready and waiting, he’s never allowed a hit against an opposing pitcher with a 0-for-28 record with 14 strikeouts.

Boston trails Baltimore by one-half game in the American League East, and is averaging 5.9 runs per game. David Ortiz drove in a run as a pinch hitter on Tuesday and manager John Ferrell might keep him in that role on Wednesday seizing the opportunity resting him.

Bet on San Francisco

Behind Bumgarner’s pitching, the San Francisco Giants are red-hot on the mound. Bumgarner is 6-0 with a 1.11 ERA in his last eight starts.

Bumgarner, expressed his interest in participating in the Home Run Derby prior to the All-Star Game. However, manager Bruce Bochy did not give him the go ahead and told Bumgarner he'll be sticking with his day job. The 26-year-old matched a season high with 11 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings with a 6-0 victory in Atlanta on Thursday. Bumgarner is 7-7 with a 3.76 ERA in 17 interleague starts, which includes a loss in his only outing against Boston during his rookie season of 2010.

Catcher Buster Posey might not be playing tonight, as he’s been dealing with nerve irritation in his right thumb. The Giants have lost three straight after a five-game home winning streak, but still have a three-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

Colorado Rockies vs Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Time: Wednesday, June 08, 2016 10:10 PM ET
  • Place: Dodger Stadium

Betting Odds

  • Rockies +144
  • Dodgers -154
  • Total: 7.5

Bet on the Rockies

Leftie Christopher Patrick Rusin has not been faring well as of late. With a 1-4 record and a 4.62 ERA, Rusing just finished a 7 inning stretch against San Diego on June 3, that ended with a Rockies 4-0 loss. In that stretch he allowed three runs on four hits.

Rusin hasn’t started against the Dodgers this year and he might have a better performance tonight. Now, given Rusin’s performance, the Rockies will have to turn to Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez to come through on offense. With four home runs between the two of them, they probably will have to pick up the slack to win this game.

Bet on the Dodgers

After back-to-back wins, Kenta Maeda appears to be getting back into shape. He’s brought down his ERA from 3.29 to 2.84 since last May and has allowed only one earned run on eight hits over 11.1 innings.

The Dodgers offense is also a big help, putting up 13 runs over the last two games. With shortstop Corey Seager, who’s gone 10-for-24 with six home runs and 11 RBI over his last seven games, along with Trayce Thompson, who is 5-for-17 with two doubles and two home runs in his last seven outings, Los Angeles can do plenty of damage against Rusin.

With Maeda, the Dodgers appear to have the advantage. Maeda had his best performance of his career against Colorado on April 23, pitching for 6.1 innings and allowing only three hits, along with eight strikeouts in a 4-1 road win.

Betting Trends

  • Colorado is 3-8 SU in its last 11 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Colorado's last 5 games
  • Colorado is 4-9 SU in its last 13 games on the road
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of LA Dodgers's last 6 games at home
  • LA Dodgers is 14-4 SU in its last 18 games when playing at home against Colorado
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of LA Dodgers's last 6 games when playing at home against Colorado

Game Prediction: Los Angeles win, 5-4.
