The 2014 World Series is underway, and it looks like the Kansas City Royals have finally been figured out. The Giants eliminated any chances of a comeback by the Royals by scoring three runs in the first inning of game 1, which was all Madison Bumgarner needed to shut their offense down. The series will shift to San Francisco for games 3, 4, and 5, which will give the Giants a chance to close out the series at home.

Kansas City Royals vs. San Francisco Giants, Game 3, Friday, October 24, 8:07 PM. ET.

The Royals will send Jeremy Guthrie to the mound, while the Giants will give Tim Hudson the start.

Guthrie made his first playoff start in the ALCS against the Baltimore Orioles, he was unable to get the decision, but he pitched very well in the game, allowing only one run in five innings, and helped the Royals get the 2-1 victory. They will be hoping for a similar performance when he goes up against the Giants.

Tim Hudson hasn’t been able to get the decision in his two playoff starts this season, but he pitched well enough in both games to help the Giants get the win. He was solid in his first start, allowing only one run in seven innings, but was shaky in his second start, and allowed four runs in six innings, but the Giants prevailed 5-4. The team will be hoping for a better performance from him against the Royals.

Personal Pick: The Royals will get a win in game three, which will give them another chance to play at home.

Kansas City Royals vs. San Francisco Giants, Game 4, Saturday, October 25, 8:07 PM. ET.

The Royals will start Jason Vargas, while the Giants will go with Ryan Vogelsong.

Vargas has pitched well in his two playoff starts, and is 1-0 with 1 ND. He gave up two runs in his start against the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS, but the Royals were able to win the game 3-2, and only gave up one run in his second start against the Orioles, which was his first career playoff win.

Vogelsong was instrumental in San Francisco’s World Series run in 2012, and was 3-0 in four starts for the Giants, allowing a total of three runs in those starts. He hasn’t won any decision in his two playoff starts this year, but the Giants are 2-0 in those games. He allowed one run in five innings against the Nationals, but didn’t last long against the Cardinals, allowing four runs in three innings.

Personal Pick: Vargas has pitched well for the Royals this season, and will help them get the win.

Kansas City Royals vs. San Francisco Giants, Game 5, Sunday, October 26, 8:07 PM. ET.

The Royals will give James Shields his second start of the series, while the Giants will go with Madison Bumgarner again.

James Shields got rocked in the first game of the series, allowing five runs in three innings, which earned him his first loss in the playoffs. The Royals will need him to bounce back and give a performance similar to the ones he gave to help them win three playoff games.

Madison Bumgarner has been lights out for the Giants this postseason, he is 3-1 in his five playoff starts this year, with a 1.40 ERA, and has been the key to San Francisco’s success this year. The Giants will need him to come through for them once again against the Royals.

Personal Pick: Bumgarner has pitched better on the road in the playoffs, but will still be good enough to help the Giants win this game.
