San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Clippers: NBA Game Preview

The San Antonio Spurs will be trying to move into 6th place in the Western Conference standings, when they visit the Staples Center, to take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night.

San Antonio Spurs (34-19) vs, Los Angeles Clippers (35-19), Thursday, February 19, 10:30 PM. ET. TNT.

The Clippers vs Spurs rivalry has been one sided lately, with the Spurs winning six of their last eight regular season meetings, and all four playoff games that they have played in.

The Spurs went into the All Star break playing very well, they won four of their last five games, and their only loss was a five point loss to the Toronto Raptors. The team will be trying to continue their current streak in the second half of the season, where they have historically been dominant. In their last meeting against the Clippers, the Spurs had their six game winning streak snapped in a 105-85 loss. The trio of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker combined for 18 points in the loss, which isn't likely to happen in this game.

Kahwi Leonard and Danny Green were the only Spurs players to score in double digits, and finished the game with 24 points and 16 points respectively. The Spurs are currently half a game behind the Clippers, and will move into 6th place in the standings with a win.

The Clippers followed up their win over the Spurs with a four game losing streak, which dropped them to 6th place in the standings. They quickly recovered from that stretch, and have won two straight games. In their last meeting against the Spurs, Blake Griffin was unstoppable, and created a lot of problems for the San Antonio big men, finishing the game with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. The team will have to find a way to win this game without him, because he is currently sidelined with an elbow injury. He had surgery on the elbow on February 9, and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

DeAndre Jordan has stepped up his game in Griffin's absence, and he is averaging 23 points and 23.7 rebounds during the Clippers two game winning streak, which is double his regular season scoring average of 10.8 points per game, and 10 rebounds more than the 13.8 he averages. The team will be hoping he continues to contribute at such a high level while Griffin recovers.

  • The Spurs allow opponents to score 96.7 points per game, which is 3rd in the NBA.
  • The Clippers allow opponents to score 100.7 points per game, which is 21st in the NBA.
  • The Spurs average 24.3 assists per game, which is 6th in the NBA.

Clippers vs Spurs Game Odds and Predictions

The Spurs will be the favorites in this game, due to the injury to Blake Griffin.

My Pick: Even if Griffin was playing in this game, the Spurs would have won this game because of the way they were embarrassed in the last meeting between the two teams, Expect Tim Duncan and his teammates to bounce back from their poor performance in the last game, and dominate the Clippers.
