SEC Championship Predictions

With the SEC tournament less than a month away, a lot of the teams in the conference are trying to secure a favorable seed in the tournament, which will make it easier for them to advance to the championship game, in hopes of securing one of the guaranteed positions in the upcoming NCAA tournament.

SEC Championship Predictions

Kentucky has been the undisputed king of the SEC this season, and will be considered the favorites to win the tournament. At 26-0, the team has defeated every SEC opponent that it has faced all year, and the Wildcats have a good chance to finish the season undefeated, with only one tough opponent left on their schedule.

Kentucky is a very well balanced team that gets significant contributions on both sides of the ball from all their players, but they are led in scoring by freshman Devin Booker, who is averaging 11 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. As a team, the Wildcats average 73.3 points per game, which is the 49th best average in the country, and allow opponents to score 51.7 points per game, which is the second best mark in the country. Most college basketball experts that have made their SEC predictions believe they are the team to beat in the tournament.

Arkansas has been overshadowed by Kentucky's dominance, but they are quietly having a very good season, and are 21-5 on the year, sitting in 2nd place in the conference. The Razorbacks have won five straight games, and eight of their last 10 games, and they will finally get a chance to try and end Kentucky's winning streak, when they play each other on the 28th.

Arkansas has been led all year by sophomore forward Bobby Portis, who is averaging 17.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. As a team, the Razorbacks average 79.9 points per game, which is 11th in the country, and they allow opponents to score 69.7 points per game, which is 268th.

Texas A&M is sitting in the 3rd spot at 18-7, and has won 9 of its last 11 games. The team played two overtimes against Kentucky, before eventually losing, so they are capable of defeating the best teams in the country. The Aggies are led by Junior guard Danuel House, who is averaging 14.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Aggies have struggled offensively this season, and are averaging 67.9 points per game, which is 167th in the country. Defensively, they are holding opponents to an average of 61.9 points per game, which is 70th.

Ole Miss is sitting in fourth place in the SEC, is 17-8 on the year. The team has won 7 of its last 10 games, which includes a win over Arkansas. Junior guard Stefan Moody has led the team in scoring all year, and averages 15.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

The Rebels have one of the best offenses in the country, and average 73.7 points per game, which is 42nd. Defensively, they aren't as good, and allow opponents to score an average of 66.8 points per game, which is 179th.

LSU is fifth in the conference at 18-8, but they should have a better record than they do right now, because they were involved in a few close losses that should have gone their way. The team is 5-5 in its last 10 games, and will need to start playing better if they want to make a run in the SEC tournament. Jordan Mickey leads the way for LSU, scoring 16.7 points and grabbing 10.6 rebounds per game.

The Tigers are pretty good offensively, and average 73.7 points per game, which is 42nd in the country. Defensively, they allow opponents to score 67.3 points per game, which is 203rd.

Out of the top 5 teams in the SEC, the top three contenders according to most SEC predictions are Kentucky, Arkansas and Ole Miss. The reason why they are believed to be the best teams in the SEC is because they have been consistent all season long, and they all seem to be peaking at just the right time. Ole Miss and Arkansas have already shown that they can defeat each other, and Ole Miss also came within three points of defeating Kentucky on the road.

The top 5 teams in the SEC are predicted to be the teams with the best chances of winning the tournament, because they have dominated the teams in the bottom half of the SEC, proving that those teams don't stand a chance when the tournament begins.
