South Korea will be playing in their ninth World Cup in 2014 and eighth in a row. They are listed as the third choice to win Group H behind Belgium and Russia but ahead of Algeria. To get to the round of 16 they will have to likely beat out Russia.
Let’s look at South Korea’s team and 2014 World Cup odds at BetPhoenix sportsbook.
South Korea has been a fixture at the World Cup but they have only made it out of the group stage twice in their history. Their best finish was in 2002 when they made the semifinals. They lost in the round of 16 four years ago to Uruguay. South Korea is managed by Hong-Myung Bo who took over in 2013.
South Korea is led by Son Heung Min who joined Bayer Leverkusen from Hamburg. He has not had a good season but South Korea needs him to score if they are to have success at the World Cup. He is the only player who can break down other team’s defenses and score. South Korea plays a disciplined defensive style so if Min doesn’t score they probably can’t win. They do have Sunderland's Ki Sung-Yueng and Ji Dong-Won and Cardiff's Kim Bo-Kyung but it is hard to get too excited about any of those players.
South Korea just barely qualified for this year’s World Cup as they beat out Uzbekistan on goal difference to claim the second qualification spot in Asian Group A. It was so bad that coach Choi-Kang Hee quit.

Picks
It is hard to see how South Korea gets to the round of 16 this time. They do play in a weak Group H but the team simply has no offense. Even if they get a couple of draws it will not be enough to get them out of Group H.
