UEFA Champions League predictions for Wednesday

The 2015 European soccer season is underway, which means that teams that didn’t qualify outright for the UEFA Champions League are competing for a spot in the final bracket. This week, the teams that are trying to qualify for the Champions League are playing the second leg of their series, and the winners will move on to the next qualifying round. Since there are so many games on the schedule, we will take a look at some of the most intriguing games, and make some UEFA Champions League predictions.

Here are the UEFA Champions League predictions for Wednesday.

FK Qarabag vs Celtic.

The Azerbaijani league champions played a hard fought match on the road against the Scottish Premiership champions, but lost 1-0. This time around, they will be playing in front of their home crowd, and will be hoping that they can finally qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Celtic have the 1-0 aggregate advantage over Qarabag, and are going to be the favorites to win this match, because all they need is an away goal or a draw to qualify for the next round. The match won’t be as easy as it looks, because the Celtic had a hard time finding the back of the net at home against Qarabag, and it will be more difficult for them on the road.

My Pick: The Celtic are an experienced team that knows what it takes to qualify for the Champions League, and they will use their experience to their advantage and win this match.

Sparta Prague vs CSKA Moscow.

This is a matchup between the 2nd place team in the Czech First League, and the 2nd place team in the Russian Premier League. In the first leg of the series, which was played in Moscow, Sparta came from behind and were able to end the game in a 2-2 draw. This puts them in a very good position to move on to the next round, because they were able to score two goals on the road. CSKA Moscow still has a good chance to qualify for the next round, but they will have to score at least two goals, and also win the match.

My Pick: Both teams are familiar with the pressures of playing in Champions League games, so neither team will be intimidated by the other. Since Sparta is playing at home, I’m going to give them the edge to win this match.

Shakhtah Donetsk vs. Fenerbache.

This is probably going to be the most interesting match of the day, and the hardest UEFA Champions League picks, because the first leg ended up in a 0-0 draw, which means this match is anyone’s for the taking. In the offseason, Fenerbache acquired former Manchester United players Robin Van Persie and Nani, indicating how serious they are about competing with the big clubs this season. Shakhtah Donetsk has won three straight league matches, so they are heading into this match in good form. They will be playing this game in front of their fans, so will have the advantage in this match.

My Pick: Fenerbache has a lot of offensive firepower, and will be tough to slow down. I think they will be able to overpower Shakhtar Donetsk and win the game.
