NCAAF Preview: VIZIO BCS National Championship Prediction Odds
The Auburn Tigers were a train wreck of a program one year ago as Gus Malzahn replaced the fired Gene Chizik and returned to the site where he was the offensive coordinator of the 2010 National Championship Auburn team that featured Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton. Malzahn is an offensive mastermind as evidenced by Auburn’s decimation of a good Missouri defense in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game. The Florida State Seminoles dominated the Atlantic Coast Conference and boast the current Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston who was a freshman sensation that never wilted under pressure or controversy. The Florida State Seminoles will meet the Auburn Tigers on the VIZIO BCS National Championship from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA on January 6 with coverage on ESPN starting at 8:30 PM ET.
Auburn finished 12-1 straight up and 11-2 against the spread with the CFB lines as 8 of their games went over the total. Auburn is coming off an impressive 59-42 thrashing of Mizzou in the SEC Championship Game and boasts the top ranked rushing attack in the country led by Heisman Finalist Tre Mason’s 1621 yards and 22 TD’s. The defense is less impressive and ranked 90th overall in the nation.
Can They End SEC Fatigue?
Florida State is 13-0 SU and 11-2 ATS with 10 of their games going over the total. Florida State has the nation’s 3rd ranked defense and 6th ranked offense as Winston had a 68% completion rate with 10.9 yards per attempt and a 38/10 TD/INT ratio. The Seminoles look capable of ending the SEC run of national championships dating back to 2006.
Florida State is undefeated against the spread in their last 9 bowl games and is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. SEC teams. Auburn has paid out in 7 straight games vs. teams with a winning record and is 5-1 ATS in bowl games. The Tigers are just 2-7 ATS vs. Atlantic Coast conference teams. Florida State has gone under the total in their last 4 bowl games and 5 out of their last 6 games against the SEC. Auburn has gone over the total in just 2 out of their last 10 games vs. the ACC and just 2 of their last 8 bowl games. Florida State and under the total!
