Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks

We are in the final week of the 2014/2015 NHL season, which means that some teams are starting to prepare for the playoffs, while a couple are still trying to earn one of the last few playoff positions that are still available. The Stars vs Ducks doesn’t have any of the final week drama, because the team formerly known as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, are on track to finish with the best record in the Western Conference for the second straight year, while the Dallas Stars have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

This is the third and final Anaheim Ducks vs Dallas Stars game of the season, the Ducks won the first two games in the series, and will be going for the series sweep on Wednesday night. They won both of the games on the road, and will be hoping for more success in front of their home crowd. 

Despite the fact that they have clinched a playoff position, the Ducks can’t afford to rest their stars in their final two games, because the top seed in the conference isn’t guaranteed. The St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators still have an opportunity to finish with the best record in the West, and have one more game to do so, because both teams have played 79 of their 82 games, while the Ducks have played 80 of their 82.

The Ducks are playing well right now, and they have won four of their last five games. They are hoping to finish the season strong, in preparation for the playoffs, and will love to add another win over the Stars to their record.

Dallas had a slow start to the season, but seemed to have things turned around by the end of December, unfortunately for the Stars, they fell back into a slump for most of January and February, putting themselves in a hole that they tried hard to pull themselves out of in March, but it was too late. They best that they can hope to accomplish now is to ruin the chances of the Ducks and Predators getting the top seed in the West, because those are their last two opponents. 

Despite their struggles this season, the Stars had one of the best offenses in the NHL. They scored an average of 3.1 goals per game, which was second in the league, but they also allowed opponents to score an average of 3.2 goals per game, which made it hard for them to win games. The Stars also had a lot of injuries to deal with this season, losing three of their best forwards for big parts of the season, but they refused to use the injuries as an excuse, and they will still manage to finish the season with a winning record.

Although they have been eliminated from the playoffs, the Stars are still playing very well, they have won two straight games, which came on the road against the best teams in the West, and seven of their last 10 games, so this won’t be an easy victory for the Ducks.

My Pick: The Stars are playing very well right now, and would love nothing more than to cost the Ducks the top seed in the conference. Unfortunately for them, the Ducks are also playing very well right now, and will be at home for this game, so I’m putting my money on the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to win the game.
