NFL 2018 Week 1: Rams vs Raiders Pick & Prediction

There are plenty of folks that are banking on the Rams to win the Super Bowl this year. Likewise, last year the Raiders made some noise heading into the season but soon fizzled out. Just goes to show that anything can happen once the season starts. The Rams are the slight favorites in the NFL odds for the second Monday Night Football game of Week 1 of the NFL regular season, let's jump in to see how things can play out.

Rams vs. Raiders NFL Week 1 Lines and Preview

  • When: Monday, Sept. 10, 10:20 PM ET
  • Where: Oakland Coliseum
  • Opening NFL Lines: Rams -4.5 (47.5)

Why Bet on the Rams?

Apparently, the Rams aren't too concerned that their best defensive player, Aaron Donald, did not receive any snaps in the preseason. After all, last year he amassed 11 sacks and voted NFL defensive player of the year despite not playing in the preseason.

But, it seems, the Rams have full confidence their revamped starting defense that now includes players of the likes of defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh and cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, is locked and loaded and ready to handle the Raiders.

Rams coach, Sean McVay, has an interesting approach, as he also didn't play most of his offense in any of this year's preseason games, including QB Jared Goff or running back Todd Gurley. McVay may be confident that the Rams' offense is well prepared to get the job done.

Why Bet on the Raiders?

Unlike the Rams, the Raiders won't have who was their best defensive player, Khalil Mack, for this game. Rather than pay their superstar linebacker as he deserved, the Raiders traded Mack to Chicago for draft picks.

In doing so, the Raiders might have shot themselves in the foot as Mack would have been what could give Oakland an edge over LA to start the regular season with a win. Khalil Mack immediately got to work with his new team and proceeded to show everyone why he's worth every penny he's paid.

With or without Mack, however, the Raiders have a pretty solid offense led by QB Derek Carr, who should improve this season. The only problem is Carr doesn't have a backup should he be injured. There are also some open questions on the strength of key offensive positions.
