Brazil vs. Netherlands Predictions And Preview

Both teams have played each other in the World Cup four times, and have split those meetings 2-2, the most recent was in the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup, where Brazil was eliminated by the Netherlands 2-1.

The third place game is usually played for pride, which is something Brazil needs now more than ever, after getting schooled by Germany 7-1. A win in the third place match won’t make up for such a disappointing showing, but it will be a start for a team with a lot of disappointed fans.

The Dutch had a great run in the tournament, but their inability to score goals like they did in the group stage, decided to bite them hard this time around. They were one of the few teams to stop Lionel Messi from hurting them, but they couldn’t finish when they had some good looks, and ended the game in a draw. 

They went on to miss a couple of shots, while Argentina was perfect in all shots during the penalty stage, and costing them the match. Now they will try to win this game, as a consolation, but they will still be disappointed that they fell short of their goals.

Brazil will have captain Thiago Silva back, which will be good news for the team fans, because he had to sit out their game against Germany due to yellow cards, and he could have helped lessen the blow of the 7-1 defeat.

Brazil lacked an offensive identity when they lost to the Germans, because they heavily relied on Neymar, who was not only a scorer, he also created plays for teammates, without him in the lineup, the offense looked stale. His running mates and replacements haven’t fared any better, Fred still has only one goal in the tournament, and hasn’t been a factor in most games, Hulk has been active on offense, but wasn’t able to find his finishing touch.

They are hoping to get the matter resolved by the time they have to play, and get some goals from those players against the stronger Dutch side.

After watching Germany cut through the Brazilian defense like butter, the Dutch will be licking their chops, thinking of the things they can do to the defense offensively, look for them to attack early and often, in their effort to go out of this competition with a bang. 

Brazil won’t be embarrassed against the Dutch, but they will need to play more organized defense than they did against Germany in order to win this game.
