England National Team Preview and Odds to Win the Group D

You are here

England Football Team

England will begin the 2014 World Cup in a tough Group D along with Uruguay and Italy. England is actually the third choice in the betting so they may have a difficult time getting out of the group stage. Let’s look at England, World Cup betting odds at BetPhoenix sportsbook and World Cup predictions.

England is not one of the favorites to win the 2014 World Cup as they have odds of about 30-1. They are not even favored to get out of Group D as they are listed a +225 to win Group D behind Uruguay and Italy. They are only ahead of Costa Rica in the group.

England won the World Cup in 1966 but they have not done much since with their best finish coming in 1990 when they made the semifinals.

England does have Wayne Rooney but Rooney has never played well in the World Cup in the past. He did play well in qualifying though as he had seven goals in six matches. England is managed by Roy Hodgson who took Switzerland to the last 16 at the 1994 World Cup.

In addition to Rooney, England also has some familiar faces like Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Joe Hart. England has Jack Wilshere in the midfield and Leighton Baines and Ashley Cole in the back. The problem for England is finding someone to support Rooney in terms of goal scoring. They have to hope that young players like Sturridge and Welbeck can help out. The team will be without Theo Walcott so it will be up to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to replace him.

Schedule

14 June 2014

England vs. Italy, Arena Amazonia, Manaus

19 June 2014

Uruguay vs. England, Arena de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo

24 June 2014

Costa Rica vs. England, Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte

Predictions

England plays in a very difficult group along with Uruguay and Italy. I don’t think England will win against either of those two teams so making the round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup seems unlikely.
