World Cup 2018 Group F

Germany vs. Mexico

  • Date: Saturday, June 17
  • Betting Odds: Germany -215 vs Mexico +694 – Draw +362

Germany: The defending champions are zeroed in on repeating the title and asserting their dominance on the world stage. However, they can’t grow too confident because as their disappointing Euro 2016 campaign showed them, all teams can fall.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying the Germans their spot among the favorites to win World Cup 2018. In reassurance of their fan’s trust in them, Germany won the Confederations Cup in 2017 and are still riding on a high heading into the final stretch before the World Cup finals start.

Coach Joachim Low’s toughest decision can arguably be selecting his 11 players. With so much talent in the squad, there is no shortage of options to choose from.

When you have players of the caliber of Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich), Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich), Julian Draxler (Paris Saint-Germain), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal), Mario Gomez (VfB Stuttgart), and Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich), there’s no room for complaints or excuses.

Mexico: The Aztecs aren’t a pushover and are always a dangerous squad. Mexico’s performance in Brazil 2014 was great and has continued throughout the qualifiers for Russia 2018 for which they qualified first from their region in front of teams like Costa Rica and Panama.

The Mexicans have a tough group with both Sweden and South Korea being formidable opponents. If team Mexico can avoid getting run over by the Germans and leave away the match with a point, it could determine their success in the World Cup.

West Ham’s Javier Hernandez along with a slew of talented players including Andres Guardado (Real Betis), Giovani dos Santos (LA Galaxy), Rafa Marquez (Atlas), and Hirving Lozano (PSV Eindhoven) make this team as dangerous as any other in the competition.

Prediction for Germany vs. Mexico: Germany is the hands-down favorite to win this game at -215 versus Mexico +694. Everyone would have to agree how tough it will be for the Mexicans to defeat Germany but, at least, it will give them confidence if they manage to hold their own to a draw. The moneyline for the draw is +362 which holds value.

Sweden vs. South Korea

  • Date: Saturday, June 18
  • Betting Odds: Sweden +113 vs South Korea +295

Sweden: The battle for second place will start with whichever of these two teams win their first game. Whichever squad earns the three points that are up for grabs, will get a jump ahead in the group given Germany’s expected outcome of their game against Mexico.

It’s a complicated game for both teams and neither has a clear advantage over the other. The contrasting styles of these teams will make for an interesting match though, one that might be decided in an instant.

The Swedes made it to the 2018 World Cup despite the absence of their country’s soccer legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who chose to not participate in this World Cup by announcing his retirement from international soccer.

South Korea: The Koreans have a long world cup history, having assisted to every competition since 1986. However, they face a similar fate as they had in Brazil 2014 due to the challenging group they drew.

South Korea, however, isn’t without its weapons. Their trio of English Premier League players - Tottenham's Son Heung-min, Swansea's Ki Sung-Yeung and Crystal Palace's Lee Chung-Yong – are talented and experienced and Son Heung-min is the top-scoring Asian player in Premier League history.

Prediction for Sweden vs. South Korea: It’s going to be a close game. Both teams will test each other out and may very well in a 0-0 draw. This game might be interesting to bet on the whether or not there are going to be goals in the match.
