Betting on the Yankees

Starting Pitcher: L. Severino (15-6) ERA: 3.12

It’s Severino’s fourth time starting on the mound this postseason with up and down appearances that cannot be ignored.

In game two, the right-hander got off to a great start, but was quickly pulled when he allowed one run in four innings and an injury to his shoulder.

His injury has since healed and he’s back to 100%, which is good news for the Yankees because Severino has been ripping since his start against the Indians in ALDS when he limited them to three runs in seven innings, gaining nine strikeouts in that game.

Severino has not been too successful against the Astros, allowing nine runs in 7.2 innings over two starts in the regular season, and has allowed nine runs in 9.2 career innings against the Astros.

This postseason has been about the Yanks’ bullpen since the AL Wild Card Game won over the Minnesota Twins. The bullpen combined to get every out but one in that game, which led the New York offense to overcome an early 3-0 deficit.

This series against the Astros has also been the same story, with David Robertson, Chad Green, Tommy Kahnle and Aroldis Chapman proving to be too strong for opposing hitters.

The Yankees’ bats have been fantastic with Judge, Sanchez and Gregorius going a combined 5 for 11 with four RBI’s.

Sanchez is sizzling with two home runs along with five RBI’s in his last two games, driving in eight runs in the Yankees playoff run.

The Yankees young roster has risen to the occasion with a different player taking the limelight in every playoff game so far.

Betting on the Astros

Starting Pitcher: J. Verlander (18-8) ERA: 3.26

There’s are many reasons why the Astros hired Justin Verlander but, perhaps, none greater than for game like this.

The Astros have lost three games in a row and if Verlander cannot pull through tonight, Houston will pack its bags and head home.

It’s Verlander’s fourth showing and third start of the postseason in the sixth game and Houston is counting on his magic to pull through.

The 34-year old right-hander led the Astros to a one-run game where he struck out 13 Yankees in the second match of this series.

Verlander continues to build a successful postseason career, now owning a 3.18 ERA. Though he did not face the Yankees in the regular season, he heads into this game with a 6-7 record with a 3.87 ERA in 18 career starts.

However, it’s not Verlander who needs to pick up the slack, rather it’s the Astros hitters who need to earn their salt.

Jose Altuve was non-existent in game five, going 0 for 4 and hitless since game two. The 27-year old second baseman is still hitting .394 in nine playoff games.

Carlos Correa has also been silent not collecting an RBI since game two. Correa has hit in 3 of 4 at bats with three RBI’s in regular season action against Severino, and also hit a solo homer off the Yankees right-hander in game two. Correa is now hitting .250 with three homers and nine RBI’s in nine playoff games.

ALCS Yankees vs Astros Betting Trends

  • NY Yankees is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games
  • NY Yankees is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games
  • NY Yankees is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • Houston is 0-5 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Houston is 18-7 SU in its last 25 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Houston's last 6 games

Prediction: I expect Verlander to pull off a great game and send the Astros to a seventh game. While Severino has pitched well, he still struggles against Houston, giving up nine runs in 9.2 regular season innings. This is a must win game for the Astros and I can’t see them losing four straight games.
