Betting on the Dodgers

Though L.A. headed into the first game of this series having lost two games of a three-game series against Houston, they powered their way to a win the first game of this series last night.

The last time around these two met earlier in the season, they split the games with L.A. winning the first match by a score of 4-0. Back then, Chris Taylor and Corey Seager clocked back-to-back homers off of Sean Manaea in the first inning, while Matt Kemp added another home run later on.

However, this time around Seager won’t be around as he’s recovering from surgery to his left hip and is not expected to return until the beginning of spring training next year.

The Blue Crew has been pushed forward by Yasmani Grandal who has been white-hot at the plate since the beginning of July with a slash line of .350/.475/.738 with five doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 17 RBI while drawing 19 walks against 20 strikeouts in 26 games. He also leads the league in on-base percentage, while ranking among the best in the big leagues in batting average (3rd), slugging percentage (2nd), OPS (1.212, 2nd) and home runs (T-9th).

Ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw gets the nod to start tonight; Kershaw (5-5, 2.55) allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Brewers. But, he was helped by the Dodgers’ bats who had scored 10 runs by the end of the sixth inning.

Betting on the A’s

The A’s will look for payback after losing the first game of this series and hope to get back on track after having won 12 of their last 16 games. Oakland has scored 10 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last 12 games.

Oakland has been practically unstoppable as of late, outscoring Toronto and Detroit 33-7 in three-game series, even going so far as holding the Tigers to just one run through the whole series over the weekend.

Marcus Semien leads the bats with 116 hits and 39 RBI while Jed Lowrie and Khris Davis have combined for 214 hits and 156 RBI. Oakland will also have Chad Pinder back from the disabled list and will likely start to face lefties or filling in as needed versus righties.

Mike Fiers gets the ball, and he is 7-6 with a 3.48 ERA and 87 strikeouts this season. Fiers is 4-1 with a 2.05 ERA and 27 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.

Dodgers vs. A’s Betting Trends

  • LA Dodgers is 3-6 ATS in its last 9 games
  • LA Dodgers is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of LA Dodgers' last 11 games
  • Oakland is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Oakland's last 6 games
  • Oakland is 8-1 SU in its last 9 games at home

Game Pick: The Dodgers are the slight favorites with Kershaw starting to face the A’s batting order. Though it’ll be hard for Oakland’s bats to take out one of the best pitchers in the MLB, they’ve been on a roll lately. All things considered, it’s too close to call but the UNDER seems to be a good bet. The A’s have hit the under in five of their last six games at home and with these two pitchers taking the mound it’s going to be a duel that’s well worth your money.
