Texas Rangers Analysis

The Rangers currently find themselves three games out of the playoffs, and still have a good chance to make it if they can put together a string of victories.

After winning their series against the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers last week, Texas missed out on an opportunity to reduce their playoff deficit when they split their series with AL Central bottom dwelling Chicago White Sox over the weekend.

The Rangers know they can’t afford to drop too many games with the playoffs just around the corner, so expect them to be ready for the Angels on Wednesday.

The Rangers’ pitchers have done a decent job lately and have kept the team in a lot of their games.

However, the biggest reason for their recent success has been their bats, which have been very hot lately.

Heading into Tuesday, Elvis Andrus had 145 hits, 16 homers, 65 RBI and 79 runs, while Nomar Mazara had 110 hits, 53 runs, 16 homers and 83 RBI. In the Tuesday game, Andrus had two hits and an RBI; Mazara went 1-for-4.

Texas has scored 76 runs in their last 10 games, their best offensive output in a 10 game span this season. After being held to just one run on Tuesday, expect another offensive explosion from Texas on Wednesday.

Starting Pitcher Analysis

The Rangers will give Andrew Cashner the start against Los Angeles. In 20 starts, Cashner has a 7-9 record with a 3.31 ERA.

Despite his record, Cashner has been pitching well lately, and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his last four starts. After a no-decision in his last start, the right hander will be trying to get back in the win column.

Rangers Betting Trends

  • Texas is 9-4 ATS in its last 13 games
  • Texas is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Texas is 9-4 SU in its last 13 games

Los Angeles Angels Analysis

The Angels have been on a roll since Mike Trout rejoined the lineup after spending a couple of months on the disabled list.

Los Angeles has won or split its last four series, and have won 10 of their last 13 games, which helped vault them back in to the playoff mix.

Like the Rangers, the Angels have been putting on an offensive display, and have scored 64 runs in their last 13 games.

Los Angeles also has some notable hitters; Andrelton Simmons brought 134 hits, 62 runs, 13 homers and 57 RBI into Tuesday, while Kole Calhoun managed 106 hits, 58 runs, 16 homers and 51 RBI. Calhoun ripped three hits with two RBI and a run on Tuesday; Simmons went 0-for-4.

Even though they haven’t scored as many runs as the Rangers, their pitching staff has played much better than the Rangers staff, which is the biggest reason they have been so successful lately.

The Angels, who are 0.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins, who currently have the second Wildcard playoff spot, need this win to move into a tie with the Twins in the playoff standings, so it will be interesting to see how they respond.

Starting Pitcher Analysis

Andrew Heaney will get the start for the Angels. Heaney has made only one start for the Angels this season but didn’t get the decision after giving up five runs in five innings.

He finished the game with a 9.0 ERA. For his career, Heaney has a 1-1 record against the Rangers with a 5.23 ERA.

Angels Betting Trends

  • LA Angels is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 games
  • LA Angels is 10-3 SU in its last 13 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of LA Angels's last 8 games

Pick and Prediction

Heaney is coming off Tommy John surgery and is admittedly rusty. It will probably take him a while to work the kinks out.

The Angels have been playing better than the Rangers, but with Heaney getting the start, Texas should be able to take advantage and get the win.
