New York Yankees Analysis

The Yankees were able to gain a game against the Boston Red Sox in the AL East and will be hoping for a win and another Boston loss to reduce the division gap some more.

New acquisition Sonny Gray got his first win as a member of the Yankees against the Mets on Tuesday, going up against Jacob deGrom, who has been the Mets’ best pitcher this season.

Gray gave up a couple of runs on five hits and two bases on balls over six frames of work, but, later on Aroldis Chapman surrendered a two-run homer in the 9th that overshadowed the Yankees’ win.

Despite the two wins against the Mets, the Yankees still have a few pressing concerns. Rookie of the Year candidate Aaron Judge has been struggling since the All-Star break, which has affected the team’s offensive production.

Judge recently broke the record for most strikeouts in consecutive games and has seen his batting average, which was once the best in baseball, dip to .290.

Closer Aroldis Chapman has also been struggling lately and gave up homeruns in consecutive games for the first time in his career.

Chapman, who has been one of the most reliable closers in baseball over the past three years, needs to play better and avoid blowing saves if the Yankees don’t want to miss the playoffs.

Starting Pitcher Analysis

The Yankees will give Jamie Garcia the start against the Mets on Wednesday. In 21 starts, Garcia has a 5-8 record with a 4.50 ERA.

Since he was acquired from the Minnesota Twins, Garcia has given up eight runs in two games. The Yankees are hoping for a better performance from a pitcher they had hoped will help them survive the injuries to their starting rotation.

Yankees Betting Trends

  • NY Yankees is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games

  • NY Yankees is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games when playing NY Mets

New York Mets Analysis

The Mets are still barely hanging on to their playoff hopes, but their recent performance hasn’t helped out their playoff cause.

The Mets have now lost three of their last four games and find themselves 12 games out of the last Wildcard playoff spot.

Mets’ starter Jacob deGrom was clobbered with all five runs allowed on nine hits and two walks through 7.1 innings to fall to 13-6.

The Mets knocked out seven hits and walked three times with Dominic Smith and Amed Rosario clubbing two run homers.

Despite the late comeback from Amed Rosario, the Mets lost the second game of the Subway Series, 5-4.

With a little over a month left in the season, it might be time for the Mets to accept reality and start giving younger players a chance to show what they can do.

As promised by Mets’ management, Rosario and Smith were up soon after the trade deadline. Rosario is one of baseball’s top prospects and ranked sixth overall by John Sickels coming into the season.

Players like Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith are already providing a glimpse into the future for Mets fans and should be able to make the MLB roster next year.

The good news for the Mets is things aren’t going to be this bad for long because they will have their injured players back next season and should be back in the playoff mix.

The team should also be able to get some valuable assets for Matt Harvey, who doesn’t seem to want to play for the Mets anymore.

Starting Pitcher Analysis

The Mets will send Robert Gsellman to the mound to take on the Yankees. In 14 starts, Gsellman has a 5-5 record with a 6.16 ERA. He has also allowed 17 runs in his last three starts.

Mets  Betting Trends

  • NY Mets is 5-11 SU in its last 16 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of NY Mets' last 9 games
  • NY Mets is 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games at home

Pick and Prediction

The Yankees should have no problem scoring runs against Gsellman, so I’m picking them to get the win against the Mets.
