NBA Free Picks This Week
Can Memphis solve the L.A. Clippers and their number one ranked defense on Wednesday? What’s going to happen when Dwayne Wade and Chicago travel to Salt Lake City to take on Gordon Heyward and Utah on Thursday night? Will Memphis or Minnesota take the “W” in the early NBA TV nationally televised game this Saturday?
Memphis at L.A. Clippers
When: Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Analysis: Memphis is at 4-5. It’s too early to know if the Grizzlies are going to challenge San Antonio or Houston for the Southwest Division. One thing is clear, though. Memphis has almost no shot of beating the Clippers this Wednesday unless LAC suffers a couple of injuries to one of its star players.
LAC has turned into a machine in 2016. DeAndre gets the rebounds. Blake scores and Chris Paul dishes the rock. So far so good as the Clipps are a terrific 9 and 1 to start the week. But the last time that Memphis played the Clippers, they lost 88 to 99. The game was on Nov. 4, not that long ago.
The Clippers will win this game. They may not cover the spread, though. I’m taking a shot with Memphis.
Chicago at Utah
When: Thursday, Nov. 17 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: Vivint Smart Home Arena, Salt Lake City, UT
Analysis: At first glance, Chicago against Utah doesn’t seem like that great of a game. Sure, the Bulls have Dwayne Wade and Utah has Gordon Heyward. Does Wade versus Heyward constitute a game being broadcast on TNT?
Probably not. But that doesn’t mean that this battle won’t be interesting for both NBA fans and basketball handicappers. Utah has risen to 7 and 4 in the Northwest Standings. They are tied with Portland for first place and are a game ahead of Oklahoma City.
At 6-4 to start the week, the Bulls are 3.5 games behind Cleveland in the Central Division. There’s plenty of time for both teams to become a force in their respective conferences.
As far as this game goes, the Jazz have won 4 out of their last 5. Heyward has been one of the best overall players in the NBA since returning from an injury. It’s going to be hard for the Bulls to keep Heyward and the Jazz from winning this one straight up by at least 5 points on Thursday night.
Minnesota at Memphis
When: Saturday, Nov. 19 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: FedEx Forum, Memphis, TN
TV: NBA TV
Analysis: Memphis gets more air time this Saturday when they host Minnesota. This should ben ultra-competitive game since both Memphis and Minnesota sport talented big men. Memphis has Marc Gasol. Minnesota has second-year pro Karl-Anthony Towns.
The battle between the 2 should go a long way in determining who wins this game on Saturday. One thing in Minnesota’s favor is that before taking on the T’Wolves, Memphis battles Utah on the road, the Clippers on the road, and Dallas on the road this week.
I just don’t see how Memphis has enough energy to keep up with young Minnesota stars Towns and Andrew Wiggins. I like the T’Wolves in this one.
