NBA Playoffs 2017 First Round Predictions

Will the Thunder jump back to life to win against the Rockets? Can the Wizards make it two in a row? Will Paul George hand LeBron James a defeat? Here are my NBA Playoffs 2017 First Round Predictions.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Houston Rockets

  • When: Wednesday, April 19, 2017 – 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Toyota Center — Houston, TX
  • Spread: Rockets -7.5
  • Over/Under: 224

Analysis: Houston overwhelmed the Thunder with a lighting-fast offense that OKC could not stop in Game 1. Rocket James Harden scored 37 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out nine. Fellow teammate Patrick Beverley add four threes of his own, along with 10 rebounds. The Thunder’s big men have been rather quiet; Enes Kanter, Steven Adams, Domantas Sabonis, and Taj Gibson did not even post double figures and grabbed a combined 11 rebounds. Even Russell Westbrook, OKC’s go-to-guy, though posting 22 points and 11 rebounds, only shot at 26 percent and had nine turnovers.

Game Prediction: Rockets win.

Atlanta Hawks vs Washington Wizards

  • When: Wednesday, April 19, 2017 – 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.
  • Spread: Wizards -5
  • Over/Under: 210.5

Analysis: With a great team effort that saw all of Wizard’s starters reaching double figures, Washington is well-poised to take the second game. The aggressive back court duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal went a long way towards sealing the win. Wall is an able ball distributer and has found his main shooters in Beal, Morris, Porter, and Bogdan Bogdanovic. If they can produce another performance as such, they could end up going 2-0. However, the Hawks are more battle tested. Dennis Schroder, Paul Millsap, and rookie Taurean Prince will adjust for this game and even out the battleground while lowering turnovers.

Game Prediction: Atlanta wins a close game.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Indiana Pacers

  • When: Thursday, April 20, 2017, 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis
  • Spread: TBD
  • Over/Under: TBD

Analysis: Though the Pacers lost the two first games, there’s still time for Indiana to close their first win and beyond. Paul George has been up there, going tit-for-tat even with the likes of King LeBron. Indiana also pressured the Cavs into costly turnovers that turned into 24 Pacers points. Plus, the Cavs suffered a blow to its ranks with J.R. Smith having a potential hamstring injury which might limit second-shot opportunities. If the Pacers can keep things close through three periods, they can capitalize on the Cavaliers not being a good closeout team.

Game Prediction: Cleveland wins, however don’t expect them to cover. If you’re betting ATS, your bet should be Pacers.
