Ready To Bet On College Football

The 2014 NCAA football season officially begins on Saturday, August 30, which should have a lot of college football fans excited. This season will be the inaugural season of the new playoff system, which will have four teams playing for the national championship at the end of the season, which is what college football fans have been clamoring for, for a very long time.

As usual, there are a few powerhouse teams that are considered the front runners for the four playoff spots, but a couple of them have had recent injuries that may jeopardize their chances of making the playoffs.

Ohio State was one of the preseason favorites, but they lost their starting quarterback Braxton Miller, a Heisman hopeful who returned for his senior season hoping to compete for the national championship, after falling short at the last minute last season.

The USC Trojans have also been dealing with some bad news recently, with their defensive captain Josh Shaw suffering two high ankle sprains a week before the team’s season opener, then getting suspended indefinitely by the team after lying to his coaches about how he injured himself. He was expected to play a big role on defense this season, but will be out for a few weeks by the look of things.

The Florida State Seminoles will begin their title defense in prime time on Saturday, when they face the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The team will be led again this year by the current Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, who was spectacular last year, leading one of the best offenses in the country. The offense isn’t expected to be as prolific this season, because they lost two of their best receivers and running backs to the NFL, but they won’t have a huge drop off, because they still have All American tight end Nick O’Leary, who will be a focal point on offense this year.

Oklahoma State went 10-3 last year, and finished the season ranked #17 in the country. They lost a lot of players due to the NFL Draft and graduation, and only return 10 starters from their team last year, but their head coach Mike Gundy, believes they will be just as good as they were last year, as long as they remain focused, and execute the game plan well.

Game Line: FSU is favored by 17 1/2 points.

Personal Pick: The Seminoles will win convincingly.

One of the best games of the day has to be the game between #16 Clemson Tigers, and #12 Georgia Bulldogs. This game has become a rivalry in recent years, and if it is anything like the game between the two teams last year, football fans are in for a treat.

Both teams lost significant players from last year, Clemson lost starters Tajh Boyd, and Sammy Watkins, while Georgia lost record setting quarterback Aaron Murray. Those players will be hard to replace, but the teams hope their replacements will be able to handle the pressure, because this is a very important game for both teams, who are trying to make it into the playoffs. Clemson coach Dabo Sweeney tried to take the pressure off his players by saying the game isn’t as important because the season is still young, but if there are a bunch of undefeated teams at the end of the season, a one loss team will likely be left out.

Game Line: Georgia is favored to win by 7 1/2 points.

Personal Pick: Georgia gets payback for last year, and wins a close game.
