#2 Clemson Tigers vs #12 Virginia Tech Hokies

  • When: September 30, 2017, 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Lane Stadium
  • Spread: Clemson -7.5
  • Over/Under: 51.5
  • Moneyline: Clemson -315 vs Virginia Tech +260

The Tigers have defeated two teams in the top 15, but haven’t been able to move past Alabama for the top spot in the country.

This week, they have a chance to make it three top 15 opponents that they have defeated so far, which is sure to leave them in the top spot if they get the win.

Quarterback Kelly Bryant has been solid on his feet, but somewhat conservative in the passing game. He has a 67.9 completion rate and a 2-3 touchdown-interception ratio on the season, as well as 268 rushing yards and seven rushing TDs, which isn’t anything to sneer at.

He’s joined by running back Travis Etienne, who has run for 292 yards and four TDs on an amazing 12.7 yards per carry.

Clemson’s defense is as efficient as ever and works like a well oiled machine on every side. To date, they’ve held opponents to seven points or less and are allowing just 227 total yards per game (134.5 passing and 92.5 rushing).

The Hokies are a tough team however, and the crowd will be deafening as usual in Lane Stadium, where the Hokies are tough to beat, especially at night.

Virginia Tech is undefeated as well and have knocked off a top 25 team in West Virginia.

This is a well-matched competition with both teams being well-rounded on both sides of the ball.

The Hokies’ offense is led by freshman Josh Jackson, who’s made a splash in his freshman year. Jackson is putting up 281.7 passing yards per game and has a 11-1 TD-INT ratio, which is pretty good for a greenhorn QB.

Jackson also has a solid target in the manner of Senior wide receiver Cam Phillips, who has grabbed 34 catches for 523 yards and five TDs.

Last season, the Hokies lost a close game to the Tigers in the ACC Championship game, which was played at a neutral site, so expect to see another close one this weekend.

Pick and Prediction

The Tigers are favored to win this game by 7.5 points, the over/under on total points scored is not yet available.

The Tigers will get off to a fast start but the Hokies will rally in the second half and lose a close game. Take the Hokies +7.5.

Vanderbilt Commodores vs #21 Florida Gators

  • When: September 30, 2017, 12:00 PM ET
  • Where: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
  • Spread: Florida -10
  • Over/Under: 42
  • Moneyline: Florida -370 vs Vanderbilt +310

The Commodores started the season 3-0, but suffered their first loss of the season last week in a 59-0 home loss to top ranked Alabama.

They will be trying to get back on track this week in their SEC East showdown with the Gators.

In order for Vanderbilt to get a handle of things, they’ll need to start pounding the ground attack, and to do this Ralph Webb must kick into gear. Webb has just 64 carries for 169 yards and two touchdowns through four games.

However, Webb has been pretty successful against the Gators. In his last two meetings, he has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in each game.

Last season, Webb finished with 110 yards on 24 carries against a Florida defense that ended up ranked 37th in FBS against the run.

Florida lost its season opener to the Michigan Wolverines, but has won two straight since, including last week’s one point win over the Kentucky Wildcats.

The Wildcats had an opportunity to win the game as the clock ran out, but Austin MacGinnis’ 57-yard field goal fell short of the mark.

Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks was pulled in the second half of the game against Kentucky, with Luke Del Rio coming in to fill in his shoes.

Del Rio, started six games for the Gators in 2016 and helped Florida come back from a 13-point deficit. It was also Del Rio who threw the game-winning touchdown with 43 seconds left.

The Gators are still favored to win the East, but they have a tough road ahead of them with LSU, Texas A&M, and Georgia coming up in consecutive weeks, which means this is a game they can’t afford to lose if they want to win the division.

They’ll also need the defense to pull up the slack. Florida heads into this game ranked 82nd in the country in total defense, giving up 405 yards per game. Kentucky put up 340 yards last week, hurting the Gators on both the ground (120) and through the air (220).

Between Vanderbilt quarterback Kyle Shurmur and Webb the Gators’ defense could be in for another long afternoon unless this squad improves.

Pick and Prediction

The Gators are favored to win by 9.5 points. The over/under on total points scored is not yet available.

This game will be closer than most expect, but the Gators will pull off the victory in the end. Take Vanderbilt +9.5.

Miami (OH) RedHawks vs #22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

  • When: September 23, 2017, 3:30 PM ET
  • Where: Memorial Stadium-Clemson
  • Spread: Clemson -34
  • Over/Under: 53
  • Moneyline: NA

Miami is coming into this game with a 2-2 record, and haven’t looked very impressive this season.

They looked good in wins against Austin Peay and Central Michigan, but looked terrible against Marshall and Cincinnati.

Despite their inconsistent play, Miami does have one of the better defenses in the country and are holding opponents to 19 points per game, which is 33rd in the country.

The Irish are 3-1 and look better than most people expected going into the season.

The team could easily be undefeated right now if not for their one point loss to Georgia in the second week of the season.

After a 20 point win over the Michigan State Spartans, the Irish will be trying to get their name in the playoff conversation, so expect them to put up a lot of points in this one.

The Irish are still in the run to be playoff contenders, but there’s no room for error.

A few weeks ago it was unclear how good the Georgia Bulldogs were. The now #7 Bulldogs just destroyed #24 Mississippi State by a score of 31 to 3. The week prior, Mississippi State beat LSU by 30 points.

The 4-8 season is far behind the Irish and it’s time to get back to work. Unfortunately the Irish are ranked 22nd in the AP with a lot of ground to make up. The ESPN Power Index has the Irish favored in every game besides the final game at Stanford.

The Notre Dame offense is matched up against an inferior defense. Expect the Irish to run the ball all over the RedHawks as they have done so against Boston College and Temple. If Brandon Wimbush builds off last week’s performance the Irish will be more balanced with a strong passing attack.

The Irish also must get more players involved such as Dexter Williams, Chase Claypool, and CJ Sanders to name a few.

Pick and Prediction

The Irish are favored to win this game by 21 points. The over/under for total points scored is not yet available.

Even though Miami’s defense has played well this season, they haven’t faced an opponent as talented as Notre Dame so I expect the Irish to win this convincingly. Take Notre Dame -21.
