Three Week 7 College Football Predictions

Three Week 7 College Football Predictions

Last weekend’s college football action featured some big upsets that shook up the polls, and college football fans will be hoping the trend continues with more upsets this week.

However, this will be the first week without ranked teams facing each other in years, so the chances of upsets happening aren’t as great.

Even though ranked teams won’t face each other this week, there are still a lot of great games on the schedule as well as rivalry games, so we will give you a preview of some of the best games to watch this week.

TCU Horned Frogs vs Kansas State Wildcats

  • When: October 14, 2017, 12:00 PM ET
  • Where: Snyder Family Stadium
  • Spread: TCU -6
  • Over/Under: 52.5
  • Moneyline: NA

The sixth ranked Horned Frogs are coming off a big win over 23rd ranked West Virginia last week, after knocking off sixth ranked Oklahoma State the previous week.

TCU will be going into this game with a lot of confidence and will be trying to move into the top 5.

After Oklahoma’s shocking loss to Iowa State last week, the Horned Frogs are the only undefeated team in the Big 12.

Part of what’s changed for TCU is its rushing attack which no leads the Big 12 in yards per game with 220 YPG.

Its three-pronged attack of Kyle Hicks, Darius Anderson and Sewo Olonilua is very hard for defenses to stop.

But, TCU can’t afford to overlook Bill Snyder and his Wildcats, who defeated them at home 30-6 last season.

The Wildcats are coming off a tough double overtime loss to the Texas Longhorns last week, which gave them their second loss in their last three games.

The team will need to quickly get over the loss because they will be going against their toughest opponent so far and have Oklahoma coming to town next week, which means this is a must win game.

There’s still no certainty on who will start at the quarterback position for K-State. Jesse Ertz left the game against Texas and coach Snyder is keeping a tight lip on things.

This can be a big factor that affects the Wildcats’ passing game as Ertz leads the nation in yards per completion (16.91) and is 10th in yards per attempt (9.30).

The series between these two teams is tied at five games a piece, with the team on the road having won in the last two seasons.

This fact along with the trend that Kansas State tends to do well against teams from Texas has to weigh heavily on TCU player’s minds. But, since KS lost to Texas the trend may have bucked.

TCU vs Kansas State Betting Trends

  • TCU vs Kansas State Betting Trends
  • Texas Christian is 6-12 ATS in its last 18 games
  • Texas Christian is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
  • Texas Christian is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • Kansas State is 7-2 SU in its last 9 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 8 of Kansas State's last 11 games
  • Kansas State is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home

Pick and Prediction.

The Horned Frogs are favored to win this game by 6 points.

The Wildcats will give the Horned Frogs a tough test, but going by their performance this season, TCU will pull away in the second half and cover the spread. Take TCU -6.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs Arkansas Razorbacks

  • When: October 14, 2017, 7:15 PM ET
  • Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium
  • Spread: Alabama -30
  • Over/Under: 55
  • Moneyline: NA

The Crimson Tide were tested by Texas A&M last week, but managed to pull away in the 4th quarter and win the game.

This week, they will be up against an Arkansas team that has lost three of their last four games.

With Clemson hot on their trail in the polls, the Crimson Tide will be trying to make a statement in this one.

Arkansas is reeling right now and the team is seating at the bottom of the SEC West.

The Hogs lost last weekend to South Carolina in another messy game that has coach Bret Bielama’s head on the chopping block.

The status of quarterback Austin Allen is still up in the air after injuring his shoulder in last week’s game, but the team is hopeful he will play on Saturday.

The Razorbacks offense is capable of putting up points, but their defense has been one of the worst in the country this year, giving up 31.4 points per game.

Now facing Bama, it’s easy to think how this game will turn out for Arkansas. Nobody should keep their hopes that Saban will show some mercy and reign in the attack. It’s going to be a bloodbath in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama vs Arkansas Betting Trends

  • Arkansas is 0-5 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Arkansas is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games
  • Arkansas is 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games on the road
  • Alabama is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
  • Alabama is 20-1 SU in its last 21 games at home
  • The total has gone UNDER in 9 of Alabama's last 13 games at home

Pick and Prediction

Alabama is favored to win the game by 30 points.

The Crimson Tide have been great at home and have only allowed 22 points in their last three games, so I’m picking Alabama to cover the spread.

Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Longhorns

  • When: October 14, 2017, 3:30 PM ET
  • Where: Cotton Bowl
  • Spread: Oklahoma -7.5
  • Over/Under: 64.5
  • Moneyline: NA

The biggest rivalry game of the week is expected to be one of the best games of the season because the records don’t matter anytime these two teams play the Red River Showdown.

The Sooners were ranked third in the country when they were upset at home by Iowa State last week, 38-31 at home, which dropped them to #12.

The loss will also make it hard for the Sooners to make the College Football Playoff this year and will have to claw their way back to possibly earning a spot.

Texas needed double overtime to knock off Kansas State last week, giving them their third win in their last four games.

They would love to give Oklahoma their second loss of the season, which will likely put them out of playoff contention.

Since this is a rivalry game, expect to see a touch closely contested game that will be decided in the final minutes.

Arguably, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield and Texas’ Sam Ehlinger are at this point evenly matched.

Mayfield is clearly superior but is 1-2 vs. Texas (including his time at Texas Tech). Meanwhile, Ehlinger is fresh off his best game (20 carries, 107 yards and 380 yards passing).

This makes me believe this game will come down to which team plays better defense.

In that regard, Texas has the advantage. Though they’ll have a challenge in trying to stop Oklahoma’s high-speed offense, I believe they’ll be able to stay in the game.

Key to defense will be slowing down Mayfield enough to focus strengths on shutting down the running game.

This will be a big stretch but one they’ll have to take if they want to win the game.

Oklahoma vs Texas Betting Trends

  • Oklahoma is 7-2 ATS in its last 9 games
  • Oklahoma is 14-1 SU in its last 15 games
  • Oklahoma is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Texas
  • Texas is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Texas's last 12 games
  • Texas is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Oklahoma

Pick and Prediction

The Sooners are favored to win this game by 7.5 points, the over/under on total points scored is not yet available.

If the Sooners were undefeated, I would have picked the Longhorns to win this one, but after their embarrassing home loss to Iowa State last week, expect to see a focused Oklahoma team on Saturday. Take the Sooners -7.5.
