2017 NFL Wild-Card Round Analysis

Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs

  • When: January 06, 2018, 4:35 PM ET
  • Where: Arrowhead Stadium
  • Spread: Chiefs -9
  • Total: 44
  • Moneyline: Chiefs -460 vs Titans +360

The Titans didn’t end the season very well, losing four of their last five games. They also likely won’t have DeMarcus Murray in the backfield, which will hurt their chances of winning the game.

Marcus Mariota was also very careless with the ball during the regular season, which is something the Chiefs will try to take advantage of.

Kansas City bounced back from a rough stretch in the middle of the season and won their final four games of the year.

Recall also the Chiefs also got off to a 5-0 start with wins over the top-seeded Patriots and Seahawks.

Most likely, KC will go to the ground game to test the Titans’ weaknesses, but if that doesn’t work Alex Smith will switch to an air attack which will likely be successful against the 25th ranked Tennessee passing defense.

Smith has had a great season, putting up career-high numbers in passing yards (4,042), passing touchdowns (26) and yards per pass attempt (8.0), and is well ahead of Mariota in quarterback rating.

The Chiefs are hot at the moment, which is why they are expected to win this game. The point spread is -9 in their favor, and the over/under of total points scored is 44.

Expert Pick: Take the Chiefs -9 and the over on this one.

Atlanta Falcons vs Los Angeles Rams

  • When: January 06, 2018, 8:15 PM ET
  • Where: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
  • Spread: Rams -6.5
  • Total: 48.5
  • Moneyline: Rams -280 vs Falcons +240

The Falcons have struggled running the ball, but as long as Matt Ryan and Julio Jones are on the team, they will always be dangerous.

They are going up against a team making its first playoff appearance in over a decade so expect some nerves from the Rams.

The Rams’ defensive front has been incredible this year with the likes of Four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Aaron Donald, defensive end Robert Quinn and linebacker Alec Ogletree as the backbone for the defense.

On offense, this Rams squad has also been fantastic leading the NFL in scoring at 29.9 points per game on the tails by running back Todd Gurley and quarterback Jared Goff. Gurley rushed for 1,305 yards and 13 touchdowns and caught 64 passes for 788 yards and six touchdowns.

Expert Pick: Despite the inexperience, the Rams are simply better on both sides of the ball and should be able to cover the 6.5 point spread. The over/under is 48.5, and since both teams can put up a lot of points, I recommend taking the over.

Buffalo Bills vs Jacksonville Jaguars

  • When: January 07, 2018, 1:05 PM ET
  • Where: EverBank Field
  • Spread: Jaguars -9
  • Total: 39.5
  • Moneyline: Jaguars -430 vs Bills +340

This game was already a mismatch favoring the Jaguars, but with LeSean McCoy dealing with an ankle injury, the Jags should be able to get the win.

Should McCoy not play, the Bills’ hopes to make it out of this game with a win are slim. Even if he does play, McCoy will not be at 100% which has to be worrying, to say the least.

However, the Bills are also capable of playing lights out defense, so it will be interesting to see how they respond, especially since this is their first playoff game in almost two decades.

Offensively, the Jaguars can punch holes through a Bills defense that has allowed 124.6 rushing yards per game. Running back Leonard Fournette shouldn’t face too many problems in gaining yards through the ground.

The only problem that I see with the Jaguars is if Blake Bortles turns the ball over, because if so Buffalo will be able to stay in this one and might pull off the victory.

Expert Pick: I don’t see them doing so, which means you should take the Jaguars -9. The over/under is 39.5, and the under is the smart pick.

Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints

  • When: January 07, 2018, 4:40 PM ET
  • Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome
  • Spread: Saints -7
  • Total: 48
  • Moneyline: Saints -300 vs Panthers +250

The Panthers are very talented but Cam Newton has been very inconsistent this season and was terrible in both meetings against the Saints.

New Orleans also has their own issues with their defense and running game, so I expect a close game between these rivals.

At the Superdome, however, the Saints have gone on a seven-game winning streak, where they’ve also won by an average 11 points and lead the league in points per game at home (30.1).

New Orleans shouldn’t have too many problems scoring in this game; from then on, nothing is a given for the Saints.

Expert Pick: Take the Panthers +7. The over/under is 48.5, which is too high for these teams, so I'm going with the under.

For your four-team parlay, take the:

Chiefs -9

Rams -6.5

Jaguars -9

Panthers +7

If you want to play it safe, you can take the money lines on:

Chiefs -460

Rams -280

Jaguars -430

Saints -300
