NFL 2018 Week 1: Jaguars vs. Giants Pick & Prediction

Eli Manning and the New York Giants will look to give Leonard Fournette and the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars a good 'ol fashioned ass whooping. But as the regular season gets underway, the Jaguars may already be one step ahead of the game among the other NFL odds favorite teams to win the Super Bowl.

Why Bet on Jacksonville Jaguars?

Some people might think the Jaguars should be reeling after last year's disappointing bare miss of going to the Super Bowl. But, Jacksonville returns with a bigger hunger to make it this year and are among the favorites to win this time around.

Considering their success last year and the fact they stick to a proven game plan year after year, the Jaguars can make a quick killing of the New York Giants.

A year ago the Jaguars went 12-4, this year there's no reason to not believe they can improve their record. Behind Leonard Fournette's unceasing ground attack, the Jaguars relentlessly push the ball forward yard by yard. But, there are open questions on whether Blake Bortles will be able to handle the pressure for the entire season.

There shouldn't be anything to worry about the Jaguars' defense. They've proved from one season to the next they're as solid as can be and should give the offense a fair chance at having more time on the field. Calais Campbell, Malik Jackson, and Yannick Ngakoue will be riled up to go up against the untested Giants offensive line and make things miserable for Manning.

Why Bet on New York Giants?

General manager Dave Gettleman has paved the way for a new era for the New York Giants led by Pat Shurmur as head coach. It's going to be a tough battle considering the Giants have the eight toughest schedule in the league, but the team is keeping a quiet confidence about their chances of having a successful season.

Their first real test is to get through their first game. The AFC South division champion Jacksonville Jaguars were just one game shy of getting to the Super Bowl last year, and they're as tough as nails to defeat.

Manning will have to figure out a way to crack what was the second-ranked defense in the NFL last year, one that will push the revamped Giants' offensive line to the limit.

Jacksonville’s defense is capable of destroying opponents and New York’s O line might still be a weakness despite the offseason upgrades.

The defense will also need to take a step up from the 31st spot in total yards allowed of last year's season. The additions of Alec Ogletree and rookie Dalvin Tomlinson should help, but it wouldn't be fair to say the Giants defense is rock-solid. They could end up being run over by Leonard Fournette.

Offense Statistics:

Average Score For:15.38

Total Yards: 314.25

Pass Yards: 217.44

Rush Yards: 96.81

Defense Statistics:

Average Score Against: 24.25

Total Yards: 373.19

Pass Yards: 252.38

Rush Yards: 120.81

Game Prediction: Though the Giants are for the most part a new team, they're untested. The Jaguars are the grizzled warriors and won't let their first game slip by their fingers. Jacksonville is the stronger, more experienced team and they'll win.
