2018 NFL Betting Odds For The NFC North

Odds to win the 2018 NFC North

There’s a two-way battle to win the NFC North; the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings are evenly matched in the NFL futures odds to win the division while the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are lagging behind. But, once the action gets going the crown is pretty much up for grabs. Let’s take a look at what to expect in the battle for the NFC North crown.

Early NFC North Betting Lines & Predictions

Who’s The Favorite?

Like I mentioned above, there’s a head-to-head battle between the Packers and Vikings to win the North, but Minnesota is the slight favorite at +115 while Green Bay posts a +150 moneyline.

It’s Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer’s fifth year at the helm but the difference this season is that he’ll have John DeFilippo as offensive coordinator. DeFilippo will try to leverage running back Dalvin Cook and the recently acquired Kirk Cousins to set up the offensive attack. Cousins, who is a great quarterback playing in a not-so-great team (Washington), will now get the opportunity to work with two good receivers in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.

As for the Packers, Aaron Rodgers will undoubtedly be looking to hit the ground running and claim his crown back as the best quarterback in the NFC. Jimmy Graham will be a great red-zone target for Rodgers and, hopefully, this year Rodgers won’t be taken out early with another season-ending injury.

The Packers got busy during the offseason to address some concerns in its defense and brought on two great cornerbacks, Jaire Alexander and Joshua Jackson, who will definitely fix the Packers’ horrid pass defense.

What About The Lions?

The Lions have been teetering for the last few seasons between a 7-9 to a 9-7 record, but hope to have a breakthrough now that they’ve hired former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia as their head coach. They’ve also shored up the offensive line and added LeGarrette Blount and Kerryon Johnson to bolster up their running game.

Matt Stafford is a good quarterback but he’s yet to prove himself in the postseason and has not won a single playoff game since joining the league. It’s going to be interesting to see whether or not the changes the Lions have made will finally push the Lions further into the playoffs.

Lastly, what’s up with the Chicago Bears?

Chicago is headed in the right direction; the problem is, I believe it’ll still take some time before the Bears are the team to beat in the North. Mitchell Trubisky is yet to play more than seven games and he still hasn’t posted double-digit touchdowns. Perhaps this year he’ll give the Bears a crack at the playoffs, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on this.

The Bears have shored up on defense with the addition of former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Roquan Smith to its ranks, who should only improve an already solid defense. Though Chicago still has some weak spots on its defense, the presence of players such as outside linebacker Leonard Floyd and Akiem Hicks will definitely help.
