AFC Divisional Round Playoff Predictions

This weekend separates the wheat from the chaff and the winner from the losers. The Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs are set after the Wild Card Weekend and I’m looking forward to sitting back while I watch my picks for the AFC divisional round playoff games’ picks come in. Let’s get it on!

2017 AFC Divisional Round Postseason Predictions

What: AFC Divisional Playoff – Houston Texans at New England Patriots

Stadium: Gillette Stadium
Spread: Patriots -16
Moneyline: Houston +1000 vs New England -2000

Listen: Houston vs New England

My Reasons For Betting on the Texans

Let’s face it, the Texans probably don’t have a prayer to win this game. But hey, anything can happen so here are my reasons if I’m considering betting on the Texans to win.

Let’s start by giving credit to Houston for making it this far. The Texans earned their way to this game by defeating the Raiders last weekend for the wild card, even if Oakland was a hobbled and Derek Carr(less) team.

Houston’s offense did not impress, neither did its defense but if there’s one thing which might make a difference against the Patriots is giving an all-out effort on defense to try to slow down Brady and New England’s offense. At least to this point, it’ll prevent this game from turning into a slaughter of World War proportions.

My Reasons For Betting on the Patriots

I wouldn’t find myself to be alone in believing the Patriots will be one of the two teams in Super Bowl 51. Though anything could happen from here on out, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady will once more lead New England to another Vince Lombardi trophy run. At the very least, you’d be hard pressed to not think they’ll beat the Texans (heck, they already did so earlier this season…without Brady).

Betting Trends You Should Consider

  • Houston is 2-6 ATS in its last 8 games
  • Houston is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
  • New England is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games
  • New England is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games

Game Prediction and Pick: Unless an Ebola bug wipes out the entire Patriots team, I’ll bet my britches that New England wins. Care to bet against me?

What: AFC Divisional Playoff – Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs
When: Sunday, January 15, 2017
Start Time: 1:05 PM ET
Where: Kansas City, MO
Stadium: Arrowhead Stadium
Spread: Chiefs -1.5
Moneyline: Pittsburgh +110 vs Kansas City -120
Game Total: 45
Watch: NBC
Stream: NBC Sports Live
Listen: Pittsburgh vs Kansas City

My Reasons For Betting on the Steelers

I’m sure you’re well aware the Steelers are on an eight-game winning streak. The deadly trio of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell are on the war path and it doesn’t look like they’ll be slowing any time soon.

Even if Pittsburgh’s passing game will face a big obstacle in the manner of the Chiefs defense, Le’Veon Bell is primed to explode on the ground to inflict major damage. Against Miami, Bell rumbled to 167 yards and two touchdowns and you can expect the Steelers to use his abilities to crack open KC’s run defense.

My Reasons For Betting on the Chiefs

I believe the Chiefs are arguably the most underrated team in the playoffs. Please recall that this team edged out the Raiders and Broncos in the regular season and happened to have finished atop the AFC West.

While KC isn’t spectacular by any means, they’re still effective at winning games. Alex Smith has proved he can lead the offensive attack to find the end zone. And, as far as defense is concerned, it’s probably the best out there. Also, playing at Arrowhead gives them a considerable edge being that they’re 5-2 at home this season.

Betting Trends You Should Consider

  • Pittsburgh is 6-1-1 ATS in its last 8 games
  • Pittsburgh is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
  • Kansas City is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Kansas City is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games

Game Prediction and Pick: The Steelers enter Arrowhead as the 1.5-point underdogs. However, I believe their hot streak will be hard to stamp out and will end up consuming the Chiefs. Rack another win up to Roethlisberger and the Steelers.
