Steelers at Patriots Game Over/Under Total Pick

You may already know the Patriots are the 6-point favorites to win over the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. Now, when the NFL's two elite quarterbacks go head-to-head will the combined score of the game go over or under 50.5-points.

Steelers at Patriots Game Over/Under Total Pick

First, some stats: The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Pittsburgh's last 8 games on the road; but, it’s gone OVER in 8 of Pittsburgh's last 12 games when playing New England and in 4 of the last 6 road games also against the Patriots. Meanwhile, the total has gone OVER in New England’s last 6 games at home.

This may be telling of where the score might be headed, but it’s still not quite clear. Though the two quarterbacks have locked horns countless time during their famed careers, it’s the first time they compete in the postseason since Roethlisberger’s rookie season. With the a trip to Super Bowl 51 at stake, it wouldn’t suffice to say that things are going to heat up quicker than the gunfight at the OK Corral.

Both offenses have the capability of lighting up the scoreboard. The Steelers have their “Killer B’s,” Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell who may be the only one able to crack through New England’s hard-nosed defense that only allowed 15.6 points per game in the regular season. The Patriots have Brady, who if well protected behind his offensive line, can line up pass after touchdown pass.

The Patriots know how dangerous a player such as Bell is; against the Chiefs, Bell racked up 170 rushing yards and even Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has stated that: (Bell) “is really, very dynamic in his ability to make people miss in open space from a tackling standpoint, a very patient runner. It’s kind of a different style of running game where he kind of gets to the line of scrimmage and really just finds that hole or that seam, and he has this incredible burst to be able to get through.”

The Steelers, on the other hand, may not have to contend with Rob Gronkowsky but still have to figure out a way to get in the way of New England’s formidable receiving crew of Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan, Martellus Bennett, and Michael Floyd, along with the running efficiency of Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount.

The total for this game is set at 50, which on the surface seems easy for both of these two QBs to break, that is if you don’t consider each team’s defenses. As mentioned above, New England’s defense is as stout as they come and I don’t really expect that they’ll let up in this game. Pittsburgh’s defense has improved in a major way and it has the most sacks of any team at 30, only allowing 16.5 points per game since they’ve gone on their winning streak.

This makes it really difficult to pick the OVER, and instead, the UNDER is a much more solid bet to make.
