Are The Patriots The Smart ATS Pick To Beat The Steelers?

Everyone and their uncle are expecting the Patriots to win the AFC and I’m not even going to get into discussing them winning the Super Bowl. Two years after Deflategate, Tom Brady is on a beeline with a clear mission of putting on another championship ring and he’s not about to let anyone get in his way … killer B’s better watch out!

But, is laying down your hard earned moolah at 6 points a good bet? Maybe so. The Patriots have been practically unstoppable at Gillette Stadium, where they’re 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games. But, on the other hand, last week New England played sloppily against the Texans in the divisional round game and it could be telling of the storm that an inspired Steelers team can bring.

Notwithstanding, Bill Belichick isn’t one to leave a stone unturned, and you might want to recall he’s 9-3 against the Steelers as New England’s head honcho and that’s including playoff games. By the way, Brady is 5-1 against Pittsburgh with Mike Tomlin at the helm, throwing an incredible 19 touchdown passes in those six games. Ouch!

I don’t want to get sidetracked however, because the question is whether the Patriots are the better ATS bet. Well, in the last 10 games, the Pats are 6-3-1 ATS and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games. So, if you’re betting on the Steelers, I don’t mean to burst your bubble but maybe you should think things through.

Are The Steelers The Smart ATS Pick To Beat The Patriots?

Pittsburgh is the underdog. Who wouldn’t want to root for the underdogs? Especially when it’d be great to watch the Steelers knock the Patriots off their golden perch up there at Mount Olympus.

But, let’s be reasonable folks. Don’t let pride get the best of you, Pittsburgh is 3-10 over their last 13 playoff games as a dog. Even if they’ve covered the spread in seven of their last nine games (all wins BTW), it’s still something to consider.

Oh, lest I forget, what the hell is going on with Antonio Brown? Mike Tomlin must be fuming mad at his Facebook Live antics. It’s not like he doesn’t have enough to worry about with that dark cloud looming over his head (you know, the one spelling he’s just 1-5 against New England). And, that storm isn’t even considering the fact that Roethlisberger only connects on 59.9 percent of the time for an average of 236.4 yards with only nine touchdowns and just as many picks while on the road.

But, I’ve digressed again. The question is, are the Steelers a solid ATS bet? With Brown and especially Bell, the Steelers may have the upper hand on offense. Over the two playoff games, Bell has ripped defenses for 337 rushing yards and been responsible for 45 percent of Pittsburgh’s yards from scrimmage. Considering that Houston put up 105 yards on 23 rushes against the Patriots last week and that’s without a quarterback of the caliber of Big Ben, I’m thinking the Steelers will keep the score closer than two in the bed and three in the middle.

What Is The Best ATS Bet In The AFC Championship? I gotta go with the Steelers on this folks. They’ll cover at +6.
