NFL Wild Card Weekend 2-Team Parlay Pick

  • Oakland Raiders +3.5
  • Seattle Seahawks -8

What: AFC Wild Card Playoff – Oakland Raiders at Houston Texans
When: Saturday, January 07, 2017
Start Time: 4:35 PM ET
Stadium: NRG Stadium
Spread: Texans -3.5
Moneyline: Texans -180 vs Raiders +160
Game Total: 36.5
Watch: ABC

Analysis: It’s not the first time these two meet this season. However, things are mighty different this time around; back then (Week 11), the Raiders had the upper hand and more importantly Derek Carr leading the offense.

Now, the Raiders’ ranks are depleted and Carr will not be taking the field because of a broken fibula he cracked in Week 16. Everybody expected things were going to get worse from then out, and they were right; fast forward to Week 17 and the Raiders were crushed by the Broncos, 6-24. Not only that, backup QB Matt McGloin suffered a shoulder injury in the loss to Denver which leaves third-stringer Connor Cook leading the offense in the Raiders first playoff game in 15 years. We have a problem, and it’s called Houston.

The Texans meanwhile, are also expected to play a quarterback that didn’t come in until late in the season. Bearing he gets over the concussion protocol, Tom Savage is due to take the field in this game. Savage took over the offense’s reigns after Brock Osweiller was benched in Week 16. The move jump started Houston’s offense and is playing much better with the likes of top receiver DeAndre Hopkins having a much better chemistry with Savage than with Osweiller.

But the bigger factor in this game will be on defense. Such important games are decided on defense and Houston enters this game with the NFL’s top defense despite playing nearly the entire season without top defensive end J.J. Watt. Oakland isn’t without its defensive wares; the Raiders’ D have Khalil Mack who is one of the NFL’s best pass rushers and could win defensive player of the year, he alone could turn the tide in Oakland’s favor but it’s still a longshot.

Pick: Though I believe the Texans will win, Oakland’s defense will keep the scoreboard tight. Count on Oakland covering.

What: NFC Wild Card Playoff – Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks
When: Saturday, January 07, 2017
Start Time: 8:15 PM ET
Stadium: CenturyLink Field
Spread: Seahawks -8
Moneyline: Seahawks -360 vs Lions +300
Game Total: 43
Watch: NBC

Analysis: It seems Lady Luck is on Seattle’s side considering there were many factors that took the Seahawks to the spot they’re in right now. After defeating the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday (Jan. 1), the Seahawks clinched the NFC West and secured home-field advantage in the Wild Card round.

Meanwhile, the Lions lost their last three regular season games, the last of which was against the Green Bay Packers which also lost Detroit the No. 4 seed and pit them against a tough-to-beat team at home for one of the Wild Cards. Seattle has won its last nine home playoff games and never lost in the postseason in Seattle with Russell Wilson leading the offense.

Granted, the Hawks will be without start running back Marshawn Lynch in the fold and this might hamper their running game. However, Detroit is vulnerable through the air and its running game is practically non-existent. This gives Seattle an even clearer advantage to exploit.

Pick: CenturyLink Field is a tough field to play, “welcoming” its visitors with ear-splitting decibels known to wreak havoc among near-deaf offensive linemen. Wilson is also perfectly capable of shouldering the responsibility of leading his team to victory and has been in this spot many times. Hands down, Seattle is my pick to win and cover.

NFL Wild Card Weekend 3-Team Parlay Pick

  • Oakland Raiders +3.5
  • Seattle Seahawks -8
  • Pittsburgh Steelers -10

What: AFC Wild Card Playoff – Miami Dolphins at Pittsburgh Steelers
When: Sunday, January 08, 2017
Start Time: 1:05 PM ET
Stadium: Heinz Field
Spread: Steelers -10
Moneyline: Steelers -430 vs Dolphins +360
Game Total: 47
Watch: CBS

Analysis: The Steelers have to be counting their blessings to say the least, after practically finding themselves out of the playoffs and now being one of the hottest teams heading into this weekend. And, though the previous time these two teams clashed the Dolphins won, this time around the Steelers are on a hot seven-game winning streak. Backed by the practically unstoppable Le’Veon Bell, a recovered Ben Roethlisberger, and Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh is due its share of glory.

Keep in mind, Miami might be too green around the edges having practically no playoff experience. It’s the first time the Dolphins make the postseason since 2008 and quarterback Matt Moore has never taken a snap in the playoffs. Though running back Jay Ajayi is a powerhouse himself, he’ll be carrying much of the burden to fire up the offense that is if he can get through the Steelers formidable defense, the best since previous coordinator Dick LeBeau left.

Pick: Arguably, Pittsburgh could be the most dangerous team to the top-seeded New England Patriots. It’s likely the Steelers will make a point to crush the Dolphins to make a bold-statement. My money is on the Steelers to win and cover.
