New York Rangers

After a slow start in which they opened the season with 9 consecutive road games the New York Rangers began to click in late December for new coach Alain Vigneault, who has a much more entertaining and up tempo playing style than predecessor John Tortorella, who basically had a 6 goalie system of play in which everyone was to block shots that made for Dead Puck Era boredom and wore the players out. The arrival of Martin St. Louis gives the Rangers a much needed jolt of offensive ability and G Henrik Lundqvist makes them an instant Stanley Cup contender. The Rangers will get plenty of love from bettors on the NHL board as they are always a popular team but this year adds the ability to compete with the best.

Coming Up

The New York Rangers begin a 4 game road trip on Saturday, March 29 at the Washington Capitals followed by a game at the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, March 30. That is followed by a game at the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, April 1 and then the trip wraps up at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, April 3. The Rangers will host the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, April 5 and then hit the road again for a game at the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, April 8 and then a game at the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, April 10. After hosting the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, April 12 the Rangers will end the regular season on Sunday, April 13 at the New Jersey Devils.

Handicapper’s Notebook

The New York Rangers have played their best hockey on the road which is a key indicator of a team that could be dangerous in the playoffs as the Broadway Blueshirts won 15 out of their last 20 away games with 8 out of their last 11 away games going over the total. The Rangers have not been as good of a board value with the NHL odds at home as they won just 5 out of their last 10 home games at newly renovated Madison Square Garden with just 3 out of their last 14 home games going over the total.
