NHL Weekend Picks: Islanders vs Devils

As teams fight it out in the NHL for the playoff berths, the action on the ice gets hotter by the minute. We have an NHL picks for you on one of today’s games just below, first off…

New York Islanders vs New Jersey Devils

  • Time: Friday, February 19, 2016 7:00 PM ET
  • Place: Prudential Center

Bet on the Islanders

Though losing 3-2 against the division leading Washington Capitals on Thursday night, the Islanders still managed to pick up a valuable point, which gives them some wiggle room to defend their spot in the division heading into their game against the Devils.

Captain John Tavares has led his team nicely and has scored seven goals, along with nine assists, for the Islanders over the span of the last 11 games. Like we mentioned above however, the competition in the Metropolitan is fierce and the entire team will have to step up the pressure if they want to hold on to  their spot in the rankings.

Kyle Okposo will have to contribute with as many assists as possible and add to his 45 points as well, if the Islanders want to pull through. Centerman Brock Nelson will have to contribute to the attack, along with Frans Nielsen.

The Islanders have somewhat of an advantage on goal however. With Thomas Greiss, New York has been solid at stopping goals and successfully defending the net on 32 of 35 shots against Washington. Along with Jaroslav Halak, who is 5-0-1 with a 1.29 GAA against the Devils, the Islanders have a solid shot at winning this game.

Bet on the Devils

The Devils are currently holding the seventh spot in the Metropolitan Division and are behind one point for the wild card. This gives them extra motivation, because a win against the Islanders would tie these two for third place.

Though losing on Tuesday against Philadelphia by a score of 6-3, the Devils are still in a good position. With Cory Schneider protecting the goal, they have a shot at stopping the Islanders cold. Schneider is 1.98 GAA against New York in seven career starts and although he hasn’t been as effective at Prudential Center, it can’t go without saying that playing at home can change things for the better significantly.

The Devils will be relying on forwards Kyle Palmieri and Adam Henrique to score goals. They’ve scored 21 and 19 goals respectively for New Jersey this season. If Lee Stempniak can pass the puck effectively, he leads the team with 25 assists, then the Devils will have themselves a shooting chance of lighting up the goal big time.
