Betting on the Capitals?

The Capitals made a last-ditch effort in Game 5 to not be eliminated from competition that paid off. Washington fought tooth and nail and earned a 4-2 victory to extend the series to another game.

Down a goal in the final period, the Capitals managed to score three unanswered goals that bagged them the win. First, Niklas Backstrom tied the game, then Evgeny Kuznetsov put Washington ahead with the go-ahead score, and finally Captain Alex Ovechkin added an insurance goal less than 30 seconds after Kusnetsov’s score.

The Capitals will look towards their aggressive attack tonight in hopes to extend the series to a seventh game. However, it’ll be an uphill struggle with tonight’s game being played on Pittsburgh ice.

Betting on the Penguins?

Pittsburgh couldn’t end this series over the weekend, but they have more than a fair shot at closing things out tonight on their home ice.

Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury had an off night, only managing to stop  28 of Washington’s 32 shots on in Game 5 including three goals in the last five minutes of the third period.

Pittsburgh however now has team captain Sidney Crosby and right wing Conor Sheary in the ranks, both of whom returned from injury. Crosby and Sheary add plenty of punch to the Pen’s offense, that along with Phil Kessel, who scored one of the Pens’ two goals on Saturday for his third goal of the series, is well-poised to win tonight. Crosby along with four other players, has 12 or more points this postseason.

Betting Trends

  • Washington is 1-11 ATS in its last 12 games
  • Washington is 16-7 SU in its last 23 games
  • Pittsburgh is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Pittsburgh's last 7 games at home

Prediction: The Penguins have home advantage and the return of Crosby and Sheary will make a big difference. Washington will put up a big fight, but it’ll be the Penguins that take the night. Notch a win for Pittsburgh.
