Bet on England

Though many were expecting the Brits to end on top of their group, they nevertheless did not. Against Russia, an equalizer scored in the late part of that game prevented them from acquiring the three points and in their game against Slovakia they had to settle for a draw to nil. Their only victory was over Wales.

Perhaps it’s because England’s opponents have played so defensively that it’s been hard for the British squad to break through to score goals. Though Roy Hodgson has plenty of talent up front, none of the team’s strikers has been disruptive enough to crack their opponent’s defense.

Totemham star Harry Kane is expected to start alongside Raheem Sterling who is taking the pitch in place of Adam Lallana to spark things off and hopefully find the back of Iceland’s net.

Iceland will probably stay deep, following the same strategy as other teams, one that has been successful against England thus far. However, England may have better results against Iceland as the Nordic team has been unable to stop opponents from scoring in all their matches. In fact, Iceland has allowed at least two goals in all three of their matches of the group stage.

Bet on Iceland

Iceland may be one of the Euro Cup’s Cinderella stories. In passing through to the round of 16, the small nation has nevertheless shown that it won’t be pushed around.

In drawing against Ronaldo’s Portugal and Hungary and then defeating Austria in the last minute of that game, Iceland has shown grit and determination, if not luck and great timing.

Regardless that they lack a great goal scorer up top, Gylfi Sigurdsson is a capable play-maker at mid that can set up the counter attack effectively. Though they head into their match against England as the heavy underdogs, they might be able to put up a good fight if they manage to keep England’s strikers at bay.

If Iceland’s squad can keep the focus and discipline, they should be able to contain England’s attack. With a well-organized 4-4-2 formation, it will make it hard for England to break through the ranks and if they can capitalize on the counter-attack, they might be able to gain a score.

Game Predictions: Though Iceland will put up a heroic fight, England will prevail. We’re expecting the British squad to win this game 2-1.
