The Spain La Liga, known as Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera Division, simply La Liga for short, officially the "LALIGA EA SPORTS" thanks to sponsorship, is the top division of the Spanish Football League system. The league was founded in 1928 under the RFEF Real Federacion Española de Futbol, the nation's FIFA-affiliated governing body for football.

With the 1982 World Cup organized in Spain, the league experienced the beginning of a restructuring to gain independence from the Federation and attain the liberty to organize and distribute its own sponsorship and television broadcast agreements between its members. The LFP Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional, an independent organization separated from the RFEF Spanish Football Federation, was created in 1984, with the 42 clubs that comprise the two top levels of Spanish Club Football as equal voting members: The Spain La Liga or Primera Division with 20 teams, and the Spain Segunda Division as the second-tier competition with 22 teams. This autonomous organization has the role of defending the interests of the clubs negotiating sponsorships and television rights separately from the RFEF.

RFEF-affiliated teams also participate in other national events, like the Copa del Rey, a knock-out tournament that includes teams from the top five levels of the Spanish Football Pyramid, the Supercopa de España, a Super cup style trophy that features the winner of the Spain La Liga and the Copa del Rey. As members of UEFA, Spain La Liga teams qualify for international events like the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Conference League.

What is the Spain La Liga?

The Spain La Liga is the country's top-flight league, operated independently by the LFP Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional but in conjunction and under the umbrella of the RFEF Royal Spanish Football Federation, in which this independent organizational body represents the 42 teams that form the top two tiers of the Spanish Football System, with its decisions made through an equal vote for the 42 clubs.

The Spain La Liga counts with 20 clubs participating each season, with each one earning an equal base of the revenue share, plus bonuses based on the team's performance in the season. The Spain La Liga is the second strongest league in the world in financial terms and the second most-watched in the world, with the Clasico games between Barcelona and Real Madrid pulling an estimated audience of 650 million globally, more than international events like the UEFA Champions League Final or the NFL Super Bowl.

  • Sevilla Football Club - Seville

  • Union Deportiva Las Palmas - Las Palmas
  • Valencia Club de Futbol - Valencia
  • Villarreal Club de Futbol - Villarreal

The season is played between the months of August and May, with a double round-robin format in which each club plays against each other twice, at home and away, for a total of 38 matches each, with the usual three points per win, one point per draw, and no points per loss. All teams are ranked by points, and in case of a tie in points, by goal difference, number of goals scored, head-to-head score between tied teams, and number of goals scored away in the matchup. In case of a persisting tie that would define the championship or the qualification to other competitions, a play-off match played at a neutral venue would decide the tie-break.

The Spain La Liga includes a relegation and promotion instrument in which, after every season, the three lower teams in the table are relegated to the Spain Segunda Division, and the top three teams in this second tier are promoted to take their place. The relegation system gives the greatest competitiveness, not only for the championship but for the bottom of the table, raising the stakes with teams fighting until the end to maintain the category. Only three teams have never been relegated to a lower division since the establishment of the Spain La Liga in 1929: Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

The top four teams in the Spain La Liga qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Since the previous UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europe League winners qualify automatically, this earns additional qualifying spots in the case of Spanish teams being the previous Champions. Additionally, the fifth team, along with the winner of the Copa del Rey, earn UEFA Europa League berths, while the team finishing sixth earns a spot in the third-tier continental tournament, the UEFA Europa Conference League.

How to Bet on Spain La Liga

BetPhoenix.ag not only offers you the best Spain La Liga Odds, but we also provide you with many helpful tools, like this Spain La Liga odds guide, to introduce you to the numerous moneymaking opportunities available when betting on the Spain La Liga betting lines, helping you improve your chances of winning.

Spain La Liga Point Spread

The Spain La Liga Point Spreads bets, similarly to other major sports like football, basketball, and baseball, are based on a handicapped margin of victory established on a projected game result. If a Spain La Liga betting lines show a point spread of 1.5 for an upcoming game, the favorite team (-1.5) must win by at least two goals for your bet to be a winner, while betting on the underdog (+1.5) can lose by one goal, tie the game or win outright for your bet to be a win. The .5 fraction is used to avoid a push in the wagers.

This is an example of a Spain La Liga Point Spread, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Points Spread Odds

Real Madrid -1.5

Barcelona +1.5

In this case, the -1.5 points spread indicates that Real Madrid is the favorite to win by a margin of two goals against Arsenal. Conversely, Barcelona is the underdog and can lose by a margin of less than two goals. These are the likely results of this bet:

· Real Madrid wins by two or more goals: Real Madrid bettors win.

· Real Madrid wins by one goal: Barcelona bettors win.

· The game is a draw/tie: Barcelona bettors win.

· Barcelona wins the game: Barcelona bettors win.

Spain La Liga Moneyline

Spain La Liga Moneyline is always the most straightforward betting option. Your pick reflects who you expect to be the outright winner of the game. A negative odds value indicates the favorite, while a positive value indicates an underdog. Spain La Liga Moneyline uses a $100 base American odds system, in which larger numbers indicate a stronger favorite or weaker underdog.

The two-way Spain La Liga Moneyline, in which the Spain La Liga betting lines are focused on either one of the two sides winning, removing the impact of a tie or draw, in which case the bet would be a push. There is also a three-way Spain La Liga Moneyline, in which the Spain La Liga betting lines offer odds values for the home team winning, the visitor team winning, or the match ending in a draw or tie.

This is an example of a Two-Way Spain La Liga Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Real Madrid -120

Barcelona +110

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Real Madrid -120, as favorites, you would need to risk $120, while betting $100 on Barcelona +110 as an underdog, you would receive $110 if Barcelona wins the game. If the match ends in a tie, the wager would be a push, which means the bet is voided and refunded.

This is an example of a Three-Way Spain La Liga Moneyline, as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Team - Moneyline

Real Madrid -130

Draw +180

Barcelona +120

In this case, if you bet to win $100 on Real Madrid -130 as favorites, you would need to risk $130. Betting $100 on the draw +180, you would receive $180 if the game ends in a tie. And betting $100 on Barcelona +120 as an underdog, you would receive $120 if Barcelona wins the game.

At Betphoenix, our Spain La Liga odds will give you the best available Moneyline prices and the tightest point spread odds offered by any sportsbook.

Spain La Liga Over/Under Totals

The Spain La Liga Totals bet is based on a projected final score that includes both teams, independently on which side wins. Spain La Liga Totals are represented in an Over/Under set, where you can pick if you expect this result to be over or under this estimated line.

This is an example of a Spain La Liga Over/Under Totals as you would find it listed in BetPhoenix:

Spain La Liga Totals – Real Madrid vs. Arsenal

Total: 2.5

Over odds: -160

Under odds: +180

In this case, the Spain La Liga Over/Under of 2.5 means that if the match ends with a combined score of three or more goals, the Over wins; if the total score is two or less, the Under wins. If you bet to win $100 on the Over -160, you would need to risk $160 and win if the game ends with 3 goals or more. Betting $100 on the Under +180, you would receive $180 if the game ends with 2 goals or less.

Spain La Liga Parlays

Spain La Liga Parlay is a wager type in which two or more Spain La Liga betting lines are combined to form a single wager with a considerably higher payout. However, all selected Spain La Liga betting lines must win for the parlay wager to win. You can combine point spreads, moneylines, over/under totals, and other wagers. You can also combine favorites and underdogs. The more bets you add to your Spain La Liga parlay, the odds multiply accordingly in your favor.

Using the example, a two-line Spain La Liga Parlay could be as follows:

Real Madrid -130

Real Madrid vs. Barcelona Total: Over 2.5 -160

By combining the Real Madrid Moneyline -130 and Total Under 2.5 +160 for the Real Madrid vs. Barcelona game on a 2-team parlay risking $100, the combined odds would be +195 with a payout for this parlay of $294.87, about 3 times your bet, instead of risking $100 to bet on each separately.
