The Stanley Cup is the yearly award Trophy given to the National Hockey League competition winner. It is North America's oldest professional sports trophy, with its first edition awarded for the 1892-1893 season. The Trophy was commissioned as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup. The Cup was donated by the Governor-General of Canada, Lord Stanley of Preston, for whom it takes its name. He presented it personally to the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association as champions of the AHAC (Amateur Hockey Association of Canada) on behalf of the Montreal Hockey Club.

The award kept the Challenge Cup name from 1893 to 1914, originally intended to go to the most outstanding Canadian Hockey team, determined by a playoff-style postseason tournament with the participation of different regional leagues. The leagues participating and the playoff system constantly changed in its first editions, sometimes including the defending champion in the tournament. During the 1920s, the different hockey leagues started to merge and become professional, extending their reach into the United States. The NHL became one of the leagues that contended for this Trophy in 1918, along with the PCHA (Pacific Coast Hockey Association) and the WCHL (Western Canada Hockey League). The PCHA ceased to exist in 1924, merging into the WCHL, which subsequently merged with the NHL in 1926, completing the process in which the Stanley Cup became the sole dominion of the new NHL league.

During the initial NHL era, the playoffs were composed of the top four teams, with the first and third-place teams playing in one semifinal series and the second and fourth-place teams playing in the other. Starting in 1975, the selection included a seed system. In 1982, with the reorganization of the league into divisions and conferences, the modern format was adopted, in which the two conference champions play in a final series for this Trophy.

BetPhoenix.ag offers you the best NHL Stanley Cup Odds throughout the NHL Season. This guide is one of the many valuable resources we provide to help you maximize your chances when betting on the Odds to win the Stanley Cup.

How to Bet on the Stanley Cup

Many sports analysts consider the Stanley Cup one of the most challenging professional sports trophies to accomplish, and because of that, the Odds to win the Stanley Cup are one of the most profitable NHL Futures bets.

The NHL Futures category includes simple bets defined as "Odds to win" lines, like the Odds to win the Stanley Cup wager. You simply select the team or player to win an event taking place at the end of the season. You can wager on the NHL Stanley Cup Odds lines, as well as any of the NHL Futures lines, before the season starts and all through the season. The odds vary substantially as the season progresses, and it becomes clearer which are the most competitive teams on the Odds to win the Stanley Cup.

All NHL futures lines come in a moneyline format, like this example NHL Stanley Cup Odds:

Boston Bruins Odds to win the Stanley Cup: +475

NHL Stanley Cup Odds Moneylines use American odds based on a $100 bet. The amount you win or lose varies as the odds are adjusted based on each side's skill and circumstances. The larger the Moneyline numbers indicate bigger chances for the favorite. Using this example, the Boston Bruins Odds to win the Stanley Cup Moneylike would pay $475 for every $100 wagered.

Other NHL Futures lines include:

• Odds to win the Conference Championship

• Odds to win the Division Championship

• Hart Memorial Trophy Player Odds (Most Valuable Player)

• Calder Memorial Trophy Player Odds (Rookie of the Year)

• James Norris Memorial Trophy Player Odds (Defensive Player of the Year)

• Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy Player Odds (Top Scorer of the Year)

• Jack Adams Award Odds (Coach of the Year)

Odds to win the Stanley Cup

The current top five teams in the NHL Stanley Cup Odds table are:

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins are rightfully at the top of the list, having assembled a very dominant team. The Bruins roster includes veteran stars such as Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and Tuukka Rask, that, coupled with younger upcoming talent like Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak, make them the team to beat this season.

Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche start as defending champions, and while winning back-to-back Stanley Cups is a feat that has not been accomplished since the Pittsburg Penguins in 1991 and 1992, Colorado is in a prime position to repeat the title. Their core team remains intact, and there is no reason to question their odds to win the Stanley Cup again.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have gradually risen to the top for the past years, with a balanced squad approach instituted by former superstar coach Rod Brind'Amour. All roster members have delivered solid performances throughout the season, with many different players emerging when called upon, making them much less susceptible to injuries or eventualities.

Toronto Maple Leaves

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a star-ridden team. While they may have plenty of question marks in their lineup, they rely on the leadership of veteran Auston Matthews, with Mitch Marner and William Nylander as their most reliable, while aging, team.

New York Rangers

Following the New York Rangers' deep run in the 2022 Playoffs, they started the season with hopes to repeat and improve their performance. Then they signed Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues, which, coupled with their already well-oiled machine, has transformed them into legitimate NHL Stanley Cup Odds contenders.
