2014 The Championship at Laguna National Preview and Odds to Win

2014 The Championship at Laguna National

The Championship at Laguna National in Singapore is this week’s European Tour event. The event had taken place in Korea and was known as the Ballantine’s Championship but this year it was moved to Singapore. Bernd Wiesberger is listed as the favorite in golf odds at BetPhoenix sportsbook to win this tournament that begins on Thursday.

Favorites

Bernd Wiesberger is listed with odds of 14-1 and is followed by Rafa Cabrera Bello at 16-1 while Kiradech Aphibarnrat is 20-1. Anirban Lahiri is listed at 22-1 while Ross Fisher and Tommy Fleetwood are 25-1.

This week’s tournament will be held at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club in Singapore. It is a return to Singapore for the European Tour and the Asian Tour. They had the Singapore Masters between 2002 and 2007 and the Singapore Open from 2009 to 2012. The European Tour is thrilled to have the event at one of the top course in the world at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

Wiesberger is the favorite to win this week and he comes into the event in good form. He tied for second at the Malaysian Open and he should be in contention this week. The local favorite will be Mardan Mamat, a three-time winner on the Asian Tour. He won the 2006 Singapore Masters at the Masters Course. "It is good that a big event will return to Singapore. I’m excited to play on the Masters Course again and I’m really looking forward to the event.” Mamat said, “I won on the course in 2006 and I’m quite happy we will have another tournament there again.

The defending champion is Brett Rumford although he won when the event was played in Korea.

Golf Predictions

This tournament is wide open with no clear favorite. I will go with Anirban Lahiri at odds of about 20-1. For a big longshot this week I will take Mardan Mamat who is listed with odds of more than 100-1. And depending upon how many golfers are listed in the field and the price, taking the field could also be worth a look.
