English Premier League

English Premier League Highlights

The 2014/2015 English Premier League is close to an end, with most of the clubs having one game left on their schedule. While this season lacked some of the suspense and drama that past seasons have had in terms of the champions, it was still a very exciting season to watch. Here is a look at some of the English Premier League Highlights of the season.

Season Summary

Last season, one of the biggest news in the Premier League was the return of Jose Mourinho to his former club Chelsea, in his first season back, he guided the club to a 3rd place finish in the standings, four points behind League champions Manchester City. This season, he led his former club back to the top of the English Premier League table, winning the title with three games to spare. All season long, Chelsea was firmly in control of the Premier League and lost only three games all season long. With the club back to its former glory, the team’s focus next season will be winning the Champions League, which is something Mourinho was unable to do in his first stint with the club.

Due to the fact that the Premier League final result was determined early, in terms of the team that won, Chelsea didn’t have much to play for on Monday, and it showed in their 3-0 loss at the hands of West Bromwich Albion, on Monday.

The other big news in the Premiership last season was the retirement of Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, after leading the club to their 13th Premier League title. He was replaced by former Everton manager David Moyes, who led the club to a 7th place finish in the standings, and failed to qualify for a European tournament. The disappointing season led to Moyes getting fired, and Louis Van Gaal being hired to lead the team back to glory.

The Red Devils had a slow start to the season, but quickly turned things around. At one point during the year, they looked like they would finish the season in the top two, but things fell apart towards the end of the year. Despite their up and down season, they are currently in 4th place in the standings and had a chance to finish third. They couldn’t defeat Arsenal over the weekend, ending the game in a 1-1 draw, which means they will finish in 4th, unless Arsenal loses to 16th place Sunderland this weekend, and they defeat Hull City on Sunday.

Manchester United’s 4th place finish in the Premier League means that they will play in a playoff to qualify for the Champions League, which is better than missing out on the tournament entirely like they did this season. With the progress they made under Louis Van Gaal this year, Manchester United is expected to be a contender next season.

Premier League Odds To Win & Teams That Are Still Fighting.

The top four teams in the Premier League have already been decided, the 5th and 6th teams in the standings, which are the teams that will qualify for the UEFA Europa League are still undecided, because Liverpool and Tottenham, who are currently 5th and 6th respectively, can be overtaken by Southampton, leaving one of them out of European competition next season.

If you are going to bet on Premier League games this weekend, here are a few to place wagers on.

Stoke City vs Liverpool

Liverpool is coming off a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace and will face Stoke City on the road on Saturday. They defeated Stoke City 1-0 in their first meeting this year and will be in for a tough time in this match. Stoke City has only one loss in their last six matches, and they are having their best season in the Premiership this year.

Match Odds and Predictions

Liverpool is favored to win this match, the money line is +110, and +245 for Stoke City to win.

My Pick: This will be Steven Gerrard’s final game as a Liverpool player, and the team will try to give him a proper send-off, so I’m putting my money on Liverpool to get the win.

Everton vs Tottenham

Tottenham won the first meeting against Everton 2-1, but they have lost two of their last three matches, with their only win coming against relegation facing Hull City. They will need to play better than they have in recent games if they want to hold on to their spot in the standings.

Everton would love nothing more than to end Tottenham’s dreams of playing in Europe next season, but since their 3-0 win over Manchester United, they have dropped two of their last three matches, but they will try to build on the success they had in their last match, and end the season on a positive note in front of their fans.

Match Odds and Predictions

Everton is the favorite to win the match, the money line is +135 to win, and +190 for Tottenham to win.

My Pick: Tottenham can’t afford to lose this game, and despite their recent struggles, they will buck the odds and get the win on the road.

Manchester City vs Southampton.

Of the three trams, Southampton has the toughest road to earning a place in the UEFA Europa League, they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Man City in their first meeting, and now have to go on the road and attempt to get a win. They are coming off an impressive 6-1 drubbing of Aston Villa and will need another performance like that to take down Manchester City.

Manchester City is in very good form right now, and the team has won five straight games. They were unable to repeat as Premier League champions this season, but they will still try to end the season on a high note, by defeating Southampton and ending their European dreams.

Match Odds and Predictions.

Manchester City is favored to win the match, the money line is -190 to win, and +500 for Southampton.

My Pick: As Long as Manchester City doesn’t rest their star players, they shouldn’t have any problems defeating Southampton.

As we approach the Premier League final week, these are the best games to bet on, looking ahead to next season, expect to see Chelsea and Manchester United with the best odds to win the season.
