Betting on Croatia?

Croatia has clawed its way to the finals, fighting to comeback wins against Denmark in the round of 16, vs. Russia in the quarterfinals and England in the semis 2-1.

An equalizer from Ivan Perisic that forced extra-time, started Croatia underway to a historic sporting feat. But, it was Mario Mandzuki’s late goal over England in 108th minute that punched Croatia’s ticket to their first ever World Cup final.

Though Croatia started losing the game, their tactical superiority eventually allowed them to control the flow of the game. After tying the score, the Croatian squad undid a more worn out English team and eventually scored the winning goal.

Croatia has marked their name in the history books, as the sixth team to play in their first World Cup finals against a previous World Cup title holder.

It doesn’t suffice to say this it would be a Cinderella ending if Croatia wins the title. Coach Zlatko Dalic will likely trust the same starting lineup as it was against England.

Though Mandzukic left the field against England with a cramp, he should be fully recovered for Sunday’s game. Strinic, who also limped off the field against England is also expected to start at his position at left-back.

Expected Lineup

23-D. Subašić

21-D. Vida

3-I. Strinić

6-D. Lovren

2-Š. Vrsaljko

10-L. Modrić

7-I. Rakitić

17-M. Mandžukić

18-A. Rebić

Betting on France?

Perhaps it’s not surprising to find a European soccer giant in this World Cup finals; after all, of the last eight finals, including this one only two have been won by countries outside of the Old Continent’s borders.

France’s slow start to this competition has all but been forgotten and the squad now is a fierce competitor as has ever existed in World Cup history.

After a legendary 4-3 win over Argentina and the equally impressive 1-0 defeat of Belgium in the semifinals, France is now the big favorite to take home the 2018 World Cup title. Samuel Umtiti became a national hero after scoring the winning and only goal of the match.

World Cup futures betting enthusiasts will cash in on France should they win; as one of the favorites at the start of the tournament they’ve proved they can get the job done and should be a safe bet.

Coach Didier Deschamps is expected to stick the standard 4-5-1 formation that has allowed France to stay compact on defense, control the midfield, and cherry-pick opportunities up front. With Mbappe being given the flexibility to maneuver players up the right and open opportunities in the middle, France can control the flow of the game to their advantage.

This arrangement gives Deschamps’ opponent on the other side of the bench an interesting challenge with some tactical considerations to be solved.

However, Deschamps also has to make some adjustments to make sure Benjamin Pavard is given enough support to not be overwhelmed as he has been at times in previous games. France’s ace in the hole has been no other than N'Golo Kante, who is the perfect countermeasure to Croatia’s impressive midfield duo of Ivan Rakitic and Luca Modric.

Croatia has not beaten France in five previous meetings, although the last two games have ended in a draw. They last competed in a 2011 friendly in Paris, which ended 0-0. Their only World Cup matchup was in 1998 in the semifinals when France won 2-1 on the way to the title.

Predicted Lineup

1-H. Lloris

4-R. Varane

5-S. Umtiti

21-L. Hernández

2-B. Pavard

6-P. Pogba

13-N. Kanté

12-C. Tolisso

7-A. Griezmann

9-O. Giroud

10-K. Mbappé

Game Prediction: It would be a fairytale ending for Croatia to win the World Cup. Unfortunately, it’s hard to believe in fairytales with the way France is looking. Les Blues win 1-0.
