They do have the advantage of playing in Group E which is one of the weakest groups in the World Cup but they are still big underdogs to make it out of the group stage.

Honduras is listed as a huge longshot in World Cup odds to win the 2014 World Cup and they are a big longshot at 33-1 to win Group E. The group isn’t anything special with France, Switzerland and Ecuador so it is possible that Honduras could be competitive in the group. And keep in mind that Honduras will have one major advantage over all of the other teams in this group as they will be used to playing in the hot and humid conditions that are expected in Brazil.

Honduras has Carlos Costly and Jerry Bengtson who combined to score 16 goals in qualifying. Costly is the key player as he can be really good or really bad.

Honduras is very well coached as they are led by Luis Fernando Suarez. He led Honduras to the semifinals in the last two Gold Cups he led Ecuador to the last 16 in 2006.

Honduras did beat the United States in qualifying and they also won at Mexico so they have the ability to beat good teams. They have played twice previously in the World Cup. They did nothing in 1982 but they played well four years ago with respectable losses to Chile and Spain and a draw against Switzerland.

Honduras has some talented players like Wilson Palacios and Maynor Figueroa and they also have left-back Emilio Izaguirre. If they can get scoring from Palacios they could be a surprise at the World Cup.
