2018 MLB National League Championship Series Predictions

The Dodgers haven’t won a World Series pennant since 1988 but at least they’re better off than the Brewers who haven’t won one at all. Milwaukee will host the first game of the NLCS on Friday with the baseball betting lines favoring the visitors behind their ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw.

Why Bet on the Dodgers?

The Dodgers sputtered throughout the entire season, but appear to have gotten into a flow and are now living up to preseason expectations. LA has won seven of their last eight games, outscoring opponents 47-15 during this run. This is also the third straight time the Dodgers reach the National League Championship Series with Dave Roberts at the helm.

Los Angeles reached the NLCS by defeating the Braves in Game 4 on Monday. Manny Machado slugged a three-run homer while adding an RBI double, giving the Dodgers a nice cushion to work with. Though Machado went just 3-for-17 in the series, all of his hits count.

If Los Angeles hadn’t won Game 4 of the NLDS, Clayton Kershaw (9-5, 2.73) would’ve started in Game 5. This means he’ll be well-rested to start in Game 1 of this series. Kershaw had a doozy of a game in his first postseason start this year; the lefty went scoreless for eight innings, allowed only two hits and had three punch-outs in Game 2 of the NLDS. Kershaw owns an 8-7 record with a 4.08 ERA and 142 strikeouts through 130 frames in his postseason career.

It’ll be Kershaw’s second start against the Brewers this season and has a 1-1 record with a 2.25 ERA and WHIP of 1.17, having struck out 12 in 12 innings of work.

Why Bet on the Brewers?

The Brewers are smoking-hot behind an 11-game winning streak that retired the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Milwaukee has also crushed opponents, outscoring them 80-34 during that stretch.

The Brewers capped off a sweep of the NLDS by defeating the Rockies 6-0 on Sunday. Milwaukee allowed just two runs in that series. Slugger Jesus Aguilar hit his first homer of the postseason in the win.

Long-time backup Erik Kratz once more rose to the occasion in the win over the Rockies, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. He’s now 5-for-8 (.625) with a run scored and two RBI in the postseason.

The Brewers may have an edger over the Dodgers because of their bullpen. The Brewers had 11 pitchers in the best-of-five NLDS but might go up to 12 for the best-of-seven NLCS which gives them this advantage.

Though it’s not for certain, the Brewers might give Jhoulys Chacin (15-8, 3.50) the nod to start on Friday. Chacin didn’t give up any runs on three hits with three walks over five innings in a win over the Rockies in Game 2 of the NLDS and gave Milwaukee a two-run lead in the series.
