The MLB betting lines once more has Boston as the favorites to win, but is there an opening for the Dodgers to head back home with at least a win under their belts? Let’s see…

Why Bet on the Dodgers?

The Dodgers brought in lefty pitcher Scott Alexander in hopes he can help defeat the Red Sox in Game 2 of the 2018 MLB World Series. Alexander played a part in the NLDS against the Braves and had a 3.68 ERA and 56/27 K/BB ratio over 66 innings during the regular season.

The Red Sox are giving the nod to lefty David Price for Game so expect to see Matt Kemp again as their DH tonight. Kemp has a .508 and hit 11 home runs over 197 plate appearances against left-handers this season. LA will also likely send David Freese at-bat given a good appearance in the first game vs. Chris Sale.

The Dodgers will send left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu to start on the mound tonight. Ryu had a so-so appearance in Game 6 of the NLCS against the Brewers and gave up four runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second. All in all, Ryu faced 18 batters and allowed seven hits, including four for extra bases, in three innings. Pencil in two walks and you’ll get that half the 18 batters Ryu faced reached base.

However, Ryu finished the regular season ranking among NL leaders with at least 15 starts in ERA (1.97, 2nd), strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.93, 2nd), WHIP (1.01, 5th), walks per nine innings (1.64, 4th) and opponents’ on-base percentage (.260, 5th) which means things might not turn out too bad. Ryu closed out the regular season 3-2 with a 1.50 ERA (5 ER/30.0 IP) in five September starts, striking out 30 against only three walks and posting a 1.10 WHIP.

Why Bet on the Red Sox?

When the Red Sox have scored the first run in a postseason game, they’re 7-0. And, since they’ve outscored opponents 9-2 in the 1st inning, they have a good chance of heading to LA with two wins under their belts.

Boston seems to be making a beeline to the 2018 World Series pennant. Incredibly, between their regular season (108-54) and postseason (7-2) wins, they’ve bagged 115 games. That may not mean much to you, but considering that only six other teams have done this, it’s a big deal.

Boston is giving David Price the nod to start on the mound tonight. Price has pitched 20 games (12 starts) and is 3-9, 1 SV, 5.04 ERA (48 ER, 85.2 IP), 22 BB, 81 SO, .250 AVG (84-for-336), 1.24 WHIP in the postseason. Boston is also 22-8 (.733) in his 30 starts this year.

Among all AL pitchers in 2018, Price ranked 7th in wins, 8th in WHIP, 11th in ERA and opp. AVG. However, Price has yet to prove himself in the postseason as he’s 0-8 in nine career playoff starts. Against the Yankees in the ALDS, Price lasted just five outs as he was clobbered with two homers by the New York’s batters.

He didn’t do much better in the ALCS, when he pitched for 4.5 inning but he still gave up four runs and came away with a no-decision. To his credit, he dusted himself off and jumped back in the saddle in Game 5 of that series and won for the first time as a starter in the playoffs, helping his team reach the World Series. Price shut out the Astros on three hits over six innings, recording a career-high nine strikeouts for a playoff game.
