New York Yankees Analysis
The Yankees got off to a fast start this season, which was surprising because the weren’t expected to compete for the division title.
Since their start, the team has significantly cooled off and is currently mired in a slump.
The Bronx Bombers have lost four of their last five starts and ahve only won three of their last 10 games.
New York’s bullpen, which was a strength earlier in the season, has become a liability in the past month.
Despite their poor play, the Yankees pitching staff still has a 4.02 ERA for the season, which is 7th in the league, and their 41 quality starts is tied for 11th in the league.
The Yankees also got some bad news this week when they announced that starter Michael Pineda, who is 8-4 with a 4.39 ERA, will need Tommy John surgery, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.
Batting wise, the Yanks are still one of the best in baseball, and have a .264 batting average, which is 6th in the league. Their 477 runs is the third most in baseball this year.

However, the Yankees suffered a similar slump so they didn’t lose any ground in the division.
The Red Sox have a chance to increase their division lead over their hated rivals over the weekend by winning this series.
Much of Boston’s success this season is due to the play of their pitching staff, who overcame a rough start to the season and has become one of the best in baseball this year.
