Houston Rockets vs Utah Jazz Predictions For Game 5

The Western Conference semifinal goes to Houston where the top-seeded Rockets will try to send the fifth-seeded Jazz back home. Can Utah stay away from being eliminated? Read the Rockets vs Jazz predictions.

Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets

Betting on the Rockets

Houston’s star duo of James Harden and Chris Paul have been Utah’s undertakers and have led the Rockets to win five of their last six games.

Between the two, they’ve made quick work the Jazz in this series. Game 4 was another easy road victory with a 100-87 score. The Rockets simply shut down the Jazz into 38.6 from the field.

Game 5 is in Houston, where the Rockets are 3-1 and 38-8 overall this year. Meanwhile, the Jazz are 22-24 on the road so it’ll be extremely unlikely they’ll win tonight.

If you’re betting against the spread, Houston is 5-2 ATS in its last seven conference semifinals games going back to last season. As 12-point favorites in this game, it shouldn’t be too far of a stretch for them to cover.

Clint Capella has also stepped up in this series; the 23-year old put up 12 points, 15 rebounds, and six blocks in Game 4 and is averaging 15.4 points, 13 boards and 2.6 blocks in the postseason which is something to keep in mind for a likely Conference Finals series against Golden State.

Betting on the Jazz

Utah reached its breaking limit with Houston. After the latest back-to-back losses, it seems like it’s the end of the road for the Jazz.

The Rockets far outclass the Jazz on both sides of the court.

Offensively the Jazz scores 102.4 PPG to the Rockets’ 109.2 PGG; defensively Utah allows 103.8 PPG to Houston’s 99.9 PPG.

Utah may have better percentages both in field goals, shooting with 45.4% to Rockets’ 44.2% and in 3-pointers, shooting with 35.9% to Rockets’ 34.2%, but they can’t match anyone up to Harden and Paul.

The Jazz has come to rely heavily on rookie Donovan Mitchell, who is averaging 20.5 points per game, but who has also been bogged down in the previous two games.

Derrick Favors has averaged 12.3 points per game this season but will have to step up big time if the Jazz is to even keep close in this game.

Utah will also have to improve on hitting shots from beyond the arc; the Jazz hit just seven-of-29 attempts from beyond the arc in their Game 4 loss.

Jae Crowder, Royce O’Neale and Alek Burks in particular combined to hit just one-of-12 attempts from three-point range. If the Jazz cannot get three-point shots to fall, and leave the task of winning on Mitchell’s shoulders, this series is over.

Utah’s job is also complicated by Dante Exum’s and Ricky Rubio’s hamstring injuries which will likely keep them from playing in this game.

Game Prediction: The Rockets shouldn’t have many problems in winning at Houston. If you’re betting ATS, the Rockets will cover at -12. The Under bet has been popular in this series; but, the Rockets will open up the spigots to close things out in front of their home crowd. The Jazz will make it a game though, so expect them also to be putting up many points. The Over bet has value on this one.
