Tonight’s NBA Betting

The 2019 NBA season tips off tonight with two monster matchups between the Pelicans and Raptors and the Lakers vs. Clippers. How will New Orleans fare without Zion? Are the Clippers Los Angeles’ new team? Get an insider’s betting analysis here.

Raptors vs. Pelicans

  • When: October 22, 2019, 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Scotiabank Arena
  • NBA betting lines: Raptors -7
  • Over/Under: 231
  • Moneyline: Pelicans +235 vs. Raptors -280

Are the Pelicans a good bet?

The Pelicans were a solid pick when rookie sensation and top NBA draft pick Zion Williamson was playing. Williamson’s injury brought down New Orleans’ odds of winning games just when they had a glimmer of what they had invested in.

But, with or without Williamson, the Pelicans still find themselves at a disadvantage because they’re a new team. The Raptors are still pretty much last year’s championship roster, albeit without Kahwi.

Are Holiday, Ball, Redick, Ingram, and Favors as seasoned as players who have just won a championship? I’m not betting on it.

Last 3 Head-to-Head Record

  • Score: 115.33
  • Half time score: 63.33
  • Field Goal Percentage: 48.47%
  • Rebounds: 45.67
  • 3 Point Shots: 30/93
  • Steals: 8.67

Are the Raptors a good bet?

The offseason wasn’t busy for the Raptors. But, Toronto is an adjusting team after Leonard’s departure to the Clippers. The Raptors’ advantage, though, is that pretty much everyone else on the team is the same as last year’s.

Maybe, the Raptors build up another successful squad around Siakam. With Lowry, Gasol, VanVleet, and Ibaka as a supporting cast, it’s not far-fetched to believe they have another run at a championship, or, at least, deep into the playoffs.

Toronto just graced Siakam with a four-year max extension, which means he’s now the Raptors’ face. The home team will want to let their fans know they still have some championship juice left in them.

Last 3 Head-to-Head Record

  • Score: 120.67
  • Half time score: 63.00
  • Field Goal Percentage: 50.37%
  • Rebounds: 43.67
  • 3 Point Shots: 42/116
  • Steals: 9.00

Betting Trends

  • New Orleans are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of New Orleans' last seven games.
  • New Orleans is 3-13 SU in their last 16 games.
  • Toronto is 8-2 ATS in their last ten games.
  • Toronto is 8-2 SU in their last ten games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of Toronto's last seven games against New Orleans.

Insider Prediction: The Pelicans couldn't even get out of the gate without having their star taken away from them by an injury. The Raptors are solid even without Leonard, so I think they'll win.

Pick: Raptors -7

Lakers vs. Clippers

  • When: October 22, 2019, 10:30 PM ET
  • Where: Staples Center
  • NBA betting lines: Lakers -3.5
  • Over/Under: 223.5
  • Moneyline: Lakers -158 vs. Clippers +138

Are the Lakers a good bet?

The Lakers opened at first as the underdogs for this game. But, after the Clippers’ Paul George announcement of his surgery, the odds have swung to the Lakers.

The Lakers aren’t strangers to injury, but LeBron James is healthy, and now he’s joined by Anthony Davis. The James/Davis duo is what the Lakers have been dreaming about for a long time, and now they have it has come true.

Can the Lakers earn their salt though against a Clippers team that’s on the rise?

Last 3 Head-to-Head Record

  • Score: 116.67
  • Half time score: 57.33
  • Field Goal Percentage: 44.09%
  • Rebounds: 50.33
  • 3 Point Shots: 35/96
  • Steals: 5.67

Are the Clippers a good bet?

Los Angeles’ other team is nothing to sneeze at. Last year, the Clippers won 48 games and made the postseason. But, here’s the kicker this year LA landed two top-five players in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

The problem the Clippers have in this game is that Leonard will have to shoulder all of the burdens of scoring while their opponents are at full strength.

Last 3 Head-to-Head Record

  • Score: 116.67
  • Half time score: 60.33
  • Field Goal Percentage: 45.68%
  • Rebounds: 48.67
  • 3 Point Shots: 35/101
  • Steals: 8.33

Betting Trends

  • LA Lakers are 8-2 ATS in their last ten games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 10 of LA Lakers' last 15 games.
  • LA Lakers are 7-13 SU in their last 20 games.
  • LA Clippers are 3-7 ATS in their last ten games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of LA Clippers' last five games.
  • LA Clippers are 3-7 SU in their last ten games.

Insider Prediction:  The Lakers are healthy. James and Davis versus Leonard is a mismatch. The Clippers will still give the Lakers one hell of a fight, but maybe it’s not a fight they stand to win.

Pick: Lakers -3.5
