Projected 2015 NBA Draft

Projected 2015 NBA Draft

The 2015 NBA Draft is going to take place on Thursday, June 25, and a lot of potential draft picks are eagerly awaiting hearing the NBA commissioner call their names. The draft is an opportunity for teams to add potential franchise players to their rosters, and for other teams to find valuable role players that can have an impact on their teams. With so many talented players in the draft pool this year, NBA owners are bound to find some really good fits for their teams. With that being said, here is our projected 2015 NBA Draft analysis.

Making our 2015 NBA mock drafts is not an exact science, because we don’t have the inside information that NBA franchises use to pick their players, and weren’t able to watch the draft prospects work out for their prospective teams. That doesn’t mean that we can’t accurately pick the players that the teams will select, because a lot of teams have specific holes that they need to fill. Teams that pick at the top of the draft are also easier to predict, because they mostly go for the best players available. Without any further ado, here is our 2015 NBA mock draft top 6.

Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves have the number one overall pick, and the consensus is that the franchise needs a big man. In this draft, there are two big men that are considered the best in the draft, and players that franchises can build around. Those players are Karl-Anthony Towns, and Jahlil Okafor. Most experts are torn between the two players, and there are rumors that Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders prefers Okafor. Right now, a lot of basketball insiders think Towns will be a better pro, and feel the Timberwolves will select him as the top overall pick, and the NBA draft odds also favor him going number one.

Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers are coming off two consecutive losing seasons, and they were able to secure the second pick in Thursday’s draft. The franchise has been in need of a dominant big man, since Dwight Howard jumped ship and signed with the Houston Rockets a couple of years ago. They already drafted a promising power forward in Julius Randle, but he was forced to miss his rookie year due to a broken leg that he suffered in the opening game of last season. By selecting another big man in the draft on Thursday, they will have a very good front court that could be dominant, if both players live up to their potential. They don’t really have much of a say in Karl-Anthony Towns and Okafor, so they are expected to pick whichever one of them that Minnesota doesn’t pick.

Philadelphia 76ers.

The 76ers plan to build a team through the draft continues, as they have another top five pick this year. A few months ago, it was almost a certainty that they would go for a guard this time around, after spending their last couple of NBA picks on big men. Unfortunately, there is a rumor that last year’s top pick Joel Embiid, who missed the season with an injury, suffered a setback, and is likely to miss this season again, which has led many to believe that the 76ers might go with another big man this year. Since the Timberwolves and Lakers are expected to take the two best centers with the top picks, I expect the 76ers to stick to their original plans, and select a guard, most likely Emmanuel Mudiay, or D'Angelo Russell.

New York Knicks.

A lot of Knicks fans are still upset with head coach Derek Fisher, for winning the last couple of games of the just concluded season, because they felt it reduced their chances of getting a higher pick, which could have been used on one of the top two big men. The truth of the matter is they could very well have still ended with the number four pick, even if they lost those games. Since those two big men will likely be gone by the time they pick, logic suggests that the Knicks will go for a guard, which means that they will likely select either Emmanuel Mudiay, or D'Angelo Russell.

Orlando Magic.

The Magic have a talented young group of players, and a new coach, who can get the most out of those players. They still need a few pieces around those guys before they can become contenders in the Eastern Conference. Right now, the team does not have a need for perimeter players, which is why it is likely that they will spend the fifth overall pick on a big man that can space the floor and protect the rim. Right now, Kristaps Porzingis is the player that best fits that description, because he has a very good jumper, and is also a decent defender. If they want to go the rim protector route, Trey Lyles is another option, my money will be on Porzingis.

Sacramento Kings.

The Kings might be the team to watch during the draft, because there are a lot of rumors coming from their camp. Right now, their biggest need is a forward that can complement DeMarcus Cousins, which means they will likely be targeting a power forward or small forward. The most likely candidates to fill the role are Justise Winslow and Stanley Johnson, because they are slashers that can create their own shots. If Kristaps Porzingis is still available, he too may get drafted by the Kings, because of his ability to score. Now to make things more interesting heading into the draft, there is a lot of talk that Sacramento head coach George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins aren’t getting along, and that Karl has asked the team to trade him before the draft. The top potential candidates so far have been the Los Angeles Lakers, who are rumored to be offering the 2nd overall pick, Julius Randle, and Jordan Clarkson. If the trade goes through, the Kings will likely be selecting one of the top two big men, and have a lot of young pieces to build their franchise around.

These are the projected top NBA Draft picks 2015, as previously mentioned, they are based on the needs that these teams face, and aren’t an exact science, so keep that in mind, if you are going to do some sports betting on the NBA Draft. There are plenty of other NBA Draft picks 2015, but the lottery picks have the most impact on franchises, which is why we focused on them.
