2018 NCAA College Basketball Futures - Tournament Champion Odds

The 2018 NCAA tournament is a little over a month away, and the top-seeded teams in the country are trying to secure their spots in the tournament in hopes of an easy draw to the championship game. Let’s look at some of the teams with the best odds of winning the tournament this year.

Michigan State Spartans – Odds to win +450

Despite being currently ranked fourth in the polls, the Spartans have the best odds to win the tournament at +450.

The Spartans are 22-3, but they are currently second in the Big Ten standings and will have a chance to improve their conference standings when they face Purdue later this week. If they can beat the Boilermakers, who have been very good this year and sport a 23-2 record, they should be able to grab more than a toehold positioning.

For the moment, the Spartans have their destiny in their hands in terms of earning a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Even if the polls are not the final say in how teams are seeded, it is in good measure an indicator of where they’re headed. Regardless, the Spartans have plenty of work to do to secure a top-two seed.

Villanova Wildcats – Odds to win +500

The Wildcats are the top-ranked team in the country and are currently at +500 to win the NCAA Tournament.

The Wildcats are currently 22-1, with the one loss coming against rivals Butler. The only problem with the Wildcats at this point is the quality of opponents they have faced.

However, Villanova improved their record to 22-1 after Sunday’s win over Seton Hall and increased their wins over teams also ranked in the CBS Sports Top 25 to four.

The Wildcats held on to the No. 1 spot for the fourth consecutive week, receiving 47 of a possible 65 first-place votes.

Though the road ahead will be tough, they have a four-game home stretch starting Thursday where they’ve not lost up to this point in the season.

Duke Blue Devils – Odds to win +800

Duke’s odds of winning the tournament are currently at +650.

The Blue Devils have fallen in the rankings after suffering three losses in the past week. Their most recent loss, at St. John’s, was their third loss to teams outside the top 50 both on kenpom.com and in the RPI and has lost them to No. 1 seed to Xavier.

The Blue Devils came into the season with the best odds of winning the tournament, but they might not be able to get one of the four #1 seeds because they are third in the ACC behind Virginia and Clemson, and might not be able to catch the Cavaliers, who have a 3.5 game lead in that conference.

The Blue Devils are still a great value at their current odds because they have a lot of depth and have already defeated four ranked teams so far.

Purdue Boilermakers – Odds to win +800

The Boilermakers are finally getting the respect they deserve this season and their odds to win it all are currently +700.

Early on in the season, Purdue lost two games against Tennessee and Western Kentucky in the Battle 4 Atlantis, but from then on they haven’t lost. In fact, they’re on an incredible 17-game winning streak dating from late November.

Currently, only three teams – Duke, Villanova, and Michigan State – have better odds of winning come March Madness.

The problem with the Boilermakers is that they aren’t as dominant on the road as they are at home, which will be a problem when the tournament starts.

The Boilermakers also still have to go through the Michigan State Spartans to win the Big Ten this season, and we won’t be able to get a real test of how good they are until they play that week.

Virginia Cavaliers – Odds to win +700

The Cavaliers odds of winning the NCAA tournament are currently +600, thanks to the team’s 22-1 record. Interestingly, the Cavaliers started the season unranked because of the players they lost last year, but the team has been playing extremely good defense, which has helped them win a lot of games this year.

Virginia’s only loss came against 18th ranked West Virginia, but they have wins over three ranked teams so far, including Duke and North Carolina.

Their offense hasn’t been very good but their defense is the best in the country and has done enough to help the team win 22 of their 23 games.

Virginia is nipping at the Wildcats’ heels. The Cavaliers went on an impressive 2-0 week, winning over Clemson and then over Duke on the road.

UVA received 17 first-place votes this week and now has a solid 2.5-game lead in the ACC with a clear path to a No. seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

My only problem with Virginia is that the team tends to run out of gas in the Elite Eight and Sweet 16, but I’m sure they will be fighting for a better outcome this year.

More Value Bets To Win The NCAA Tournament

Auburn Tigers

Even without Austin Wiley or Danjel Purifoy, Auburn has proved their grit. Currently, they own the SEC standings and have solid odds to cut down the nets in April at 60 to 1.

Kansas Jayhawks

The Jayhawks are once more poised to win the Big 12 even after having a bumpy start to the season. According to many analysts, Kansas has more than a good shot at winning the title and with odds to win the title only bettered by four teams.

Xavier Musketeers

The Musketeers have quietly slid into the latest AP Poll with a 19-3 record. If they keep on playing the way they have, there’s a good possibility they’ll go deep into the competition.
