Louisiana Tech at LSU NCAA Football Week 4 Odds & Pick

  • When: Saturday, Sep. 22 at 7:00 pm ET
  • Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA
  • ATS Odds: LSU -20.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under Total Odds: 51 (-110)

Why bet on LSU?

The Tigers are undefeated at the moment, having beaten two Top 10 teams straight up as an ATS dog. LSU owned then #9 Miami 33-13 and then went on to defeat #7 Auburn 22-21, both away from Tiger Stadium nonetheless.

However, the Bulldogs might challenge LSU and give them a run for their money. Louisiana Tech (2-0) has proved they can play with the big boys and have come close to shocking everyone in each of the past two seasons, only losing to an SEC opponent on the road by a point.

The Tigers have to come out gunning should they want to avoid giving the Bulldogs an opening that can quickly take a turn for the worst. You can be sure the Bulldogs will play like there's no tomorrow, which means LSU cannot afford to let up and must take the early lead.

The Tigers cannot afford to play as they did against Southeastern two weeks ago when after going up 17-0, took the pedal off the metal. LSU would benefit from running the ball with Nick Brossette (who is fourth in the SEC in rushing with 331 yards, averaging 20 carries a game and 5.5 yards a pop), to keep control of the game and not allow the Bulldogs a shot of staying in the game.

Why bet on Louisiana Tech?

The Bulldogs need to get a handle on turnovers. Whereas the Tigers are the only FBS school that has yet to commit a turnover this season, the Bulldogs have turned the ball over five times. Quarterback J'Mar Smith has been picked off thrice in two games and he's going up against a defense that has intercepted five passes. LSU's defense will pressure Tech's receivers and continually push them to make mistakes.

But, the same is also true for the Bulldogs. Tech's corners Amik Robertson and L'Jarius Sneed could challenge the Tigers' wide receivers and pick them off to create a few opportunities to stay in the game.

Though it will be hard for Tech to match up to LSU's bigger, more physical wideouts, it's important they keep the pressure and stay in their faces to make it difficult to score.

LA Tech does have the balance both on offense and defense to challenge the Tigers as they showed when they kept Southern to 17 points while scoring 54. But, of course, the Tigers are a different beast and may wind up being run over.
