Betting on the Clemson Tigers?

Only Clemson has the defense that could stop the Joe Burrow-led LSU offense. The Tigers’ defense ranked first nationally in points surrendered (10.6 per game) and yards allowed (244.7 per game).

But, Clemson’s defense will have to play at their highest level if they’re going to try even to slow down an LSU offense that’s ranked first nationally in points scored and yards gained per game (48.9 and 564.1).

The spotlight will also be on Trevor Lawrence when he puts Clemson’s undefeated record with him at the helm of the offense. Lawrence is no stranger to the pressure; Lawrence was thrust into the national attention last year against Alabama. Lawrence’s performance in that game gave Clemson another national championship.

The Clemson Tigers also have won two of the last three national championships, while LSU is looking for its first national title since Les Miles brought the national title back after the 2007 season.

However, the fact the game is being played in New Orleans makes it a home game for LSU. The Superdome will be bursting with more Bayou Bengals’ fans looking for their team to win a national title in their home state.

Betting on the LSU Tigers?

LSU has everything going for them: a Heisman Trophy winner, a home game in New Orleans, one of the best offenses in the history of college football, the national coach of the year, and the entire State of Louisiana backing them.

But, Joe Burrow should be wary of Clemson’s Tigers, many great teams in history have fallen to underdogs, and it wouldn’t be Clemson’s first toppled great, ask Alabama.

In fact, under the College Football Playoff system, underdogs are 5-0 ATS in national title games, including Clemson’s last two titles in 2017 (6.5-point dog) and 2019 (5.5-point dog) both against Alabama.

LSU’s offense is playing at a different level; it’s practically unstoppable. What the Tigers did in the CFP semifinals to Oklahoma was nasty, as the 63-28 score showed at the end of the game. Burrow went 29-for-39 for 493 yards and seven touchdowns with another score on the ground to boot.

How the Tigers, and Burrow, in particular, manage to spread out the offense and get everyone playing is incredible. LSU’s passing attack with duo Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson is deadly-effective; the pair have had 18 receiving touchdowns this season.

The Tigers’ ground game, led by running back Clyde Edwards, is also capable, and it gives Burrow another weapon to move the chains relentlessly all the way to the end zone.

Betting Trends

  • Clemson is 5-0 ATS in their last five games.
  • Clemson is 10-0 SU in their last ten games.
  • Clemson is 14-0 SU in their last 14 games this season.
  • Louisiana State is 11-3-2 ATS in their last 16 games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 12 of Louisiana State's last 17 games.
  • Louisiana State is 10-0 SU in their last ten games.

Insider Prediction: Clemson knows how to win this game. But, LSU is just too good of a team and have more factors going for them that give them the edge. It’s going to be a hell of a battle, but LSU brings the national title back to the bayou.

Pick: LSU -5
